Job Description

TheWater Operator 1 is responsible for providing excellent customer service bymaintaining and operating all of the systems wells, pump stations, tanks,treatment stations, and operating valves including systems operated undercontract in their assigned area. They will also ensure the delivery of highquality water by inspecting, testing, adjusting, and repairing pumps, meters,gauges, control valves, generators, chemical feeders, filters, recorders, andother related equipment. Duties also include, but are not limited to theinstallation, maintenance, repair, relocation, retirement, testing andoperations of the water distribution system and related structures and groundsoperation and the maintenance of production and treatment facilities.  

  • Operatesand maintains operating systems. Reports deficiencies to lead or supervisor soappropriate action can be taken. Corrects deficiencies with minimal assistance.Assists other departments and other operators as needed. Changes productionmeters.
  • Performs preventive/corrective maintenance as required on chemicalsystems, pumps, operating valves, buildings, and storage tanks. Orders andprocures parts for owned and contracted systems.
  • Adjusts chemical feeders tomaintain proper dosage rates.
  • Calibrates and standardizes analyzers and otherequipment.
  • Calculates dosages, handles chemicals, and records production,chemical use, and compliance data.
  • Obtains distribution, source, process, andcompliance samples as required.
  • Operates and tests emergency pumps andgenerators as required.
  • Operation and routine maintenance of equipment andvehicles; i.e., trucks, digging and trenching equipment, pavement and rockbreakers, tampers, pumps, compressors, and such other equipment as the Companymay have or acquire for the purpose of water system construction ormaintenance.
  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of water mains, hydrants, service linesand related valves, fittings and appurtenances.
    Installation of water meters; meter reading, and the transfer of meter reads tothe office.
  • Grounds keeping at company facilities and over mains, services and other areas.
  • Record the location of underground facilities, making measurements and surveysas required.
  • Perform and record inspections and tests of piping systems.
    Load and unload various equipment, materials and supplies at work sites andstore areas
  • The Maine Water Company is committed to providing a safe workplace.
  • Theposition is responsible for learning, following and ensuring compliance withall safety rules. This includes rules and regulations in the Company SafetyManual, OSHA regulations and other state, federal, or governing body's rulesand regulations.
  • Responsible for participating in weekend, holiday and standbyassignments as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Driver's License Required
  • Respirator use Required
  • General Office Software Skills
  • Mechanical aptitude (working with pumps, generators, and hydraulics)
  • Compliance with state and federal regulations required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work standby rotation required
  • Water Distribution Level II License required or ability to work towards certification within a reasonable timeframe
