Water Applications Engineer - Singer Valve - Western U.S. (Not I.T. position)

Singer valves are automatic control valves that manage water pressure, level, and flow for a variety of applications. They are used by governments, cities, companies, and contractors around the world for water loss management, water conservation, and urban water and wastewater distribution. Singer valves have been installed on almost every continent since 1957. We are seeking a technical specialist in the Western U.S. to help users and project specifiers decide which valve they need to help with any of the above applications.

As the Application Engineer for our Singer Valve product line, you will become an integral part of the sales team by assisting and supporting sales via our Manufacturer Rep network in the Western U.S. and help bridge communications between inside sales, our channel partners, and end customers. This role is not a direct sales role, but is intended to support our sales efforts, specifically by providing daily support for our Singer automatic control valves and, our newest acquisition, i2O pressure management systems. The successful candidate will be a team player and serve as a subject matter expert and valued resource to all customers throughout the territory while growing in the ability to effectively address utility distribution system issues.

Day-to-day activities include (but are not limited to):

  • Qualifying incoming leads.
  • Assisting the area sales manager with submittals, specification reviews, and quotes.
  • Helping maintain detailed customer records in Salesforce.com.
  • Providing product information, schematics, submittals, and installation & operation manuals (IOM's) to customers in a timely manner.
  • Researching and obtaining manufacturing records from product serial numbers to determine valve applications and quoting required maintenance parts to channels partners & customers.
  • Working with internal teammates to establish list pricing and required technical specifications for special application products (includes product management & engineering teams from various plants).
  • Interpreting specifications to determine bill of materials as well as downloading drawings and specs.
  • Working with manufacturers' representatives or directly with engineers for recommendations, modifications, or improvements to specifications.
  • Supporting clients & channel partners with application installations, system optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Providing support needed to resolve customer complaints, warranty claims, and issues including all paperwork and follow-up to ensure the process is completed.
  • Working closely with planners and manufacturing department heads to provide current information on lead times and expedite requests.
  • Working closely with inside sales to assist them in communicating with channel partners and customers in order to obtain required information for order processing.
  • Improving application functionality by incorporating client feedback.
  • Traveling to local installations for troubleshooting, startups, and customer meetings, as needed.
  • Training manufacturers' reps, customers, and Mueller personnel on products, applications, and software.
  • Develop an expertise in pressure management and water loss control.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Proven track record of providing technical experience in prior work assignments.
  • Ability to work independently to support sales in the Western U.S.
  • Proven ability to initiate and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external customers and colleagues.
  • Must have good technical aptitude & be able to read and interpret drawings.
  • Ability to travel up to 10-20% of the time.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of technical sales support, inside sales or customer service experience
  • Experience working in the waterworks and/or construction markets
  • Knowledge and experience with Salesforce.com

Primary work hours will be Monday through Friday and will vary based on customer requirements. This position is salaried exempt and does not qualify for overtime pay.
