Primary Purpose:

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training and supporting CWS Greensboro volunteers and cosponsor groups. Duties include identifying opportunities for individual volunteers to provide support to clients, as well as managing groups of volunteers participating in the co-sponsorship program. As a part of the Community Engagement team, the Volunteer Coordinator works closely with other CWS team members to ensure that volunteer and partner engagement aligns with the needs of CWS clients and staff. The Volunteer Coordinator is also responsible for documenting all volunteer and community engagement in accordance with CWS requirements.

Essential Duties:

  • Recruit, train, and coordinate individual volunteers and co-sponsor groupsthrough various techniques (databases, e-mail, social media etc.).
  • Identify individual volunteers for select opportunities working one on one with clients, such as ESL tutoring, transportation assistance, and job interview practice.
  • Identify groups of volunteers for long-term opportunities working closely with a newly arriving family for the co-sponsorship program.
  • Secure at least $5,000 per refugee participant from cosponsor groups and community donors, including rent support, utility payments, vocational training assistance and childcare support.
  • Generate and coordinate in-kind and cash support for refugee participants in the co-sponsorship program.
  • Work with the Community Engagement Manager to determine a plan for outreach and identify engagement opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Welcome Team Program Assistant to identify teams of volunteers for large-scale actions such as furnishing apartments for new refugees.
  • Track partner and volunteer and cosponsor group contributions, including contact information, hours of service, cash and in-kind donations, and other data as required.
  • Communicate frequently with volunteers and cosponsor groups to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed, providing additional supportive training as needed.
  • Keep informed of refugee and immigration issues, using current information to educate the broader community and raise community awareness.
  • Represent CWS NC and conduct outreach at various meetings and community events, including fairs, festivals, faith-based events, etc.
  • Initiate opportunities for newly arrived refugees to volunteer in the community.
  • Contribute to innovation and improvement in CWS Greensboro’s resettlement program.
  • Accept other duties as assigned, including transporting clients in personal vehicle. Mileage accrued while executing work responsibilities is reimbursable by CWS.
  • Work varied hours, including occasional nights, weekends and holidays.
Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Two years of experience in a non-profit setting preferred. Prior experience overseeing volunteers preferred. Cultural sensitivity is essential.

Other Skills:

Must have outstanding personal communication style, interpersonal judgment, and the ability to produce high quality and compelling written material. The ideal candidate must be a quick study of CWS Greensboro’s past successes and future opportunities, and must be highly entrepreneurial, resourceful, and creative. Must have a excellent leadership skills and a strong ability to maintain and grow relationships while working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word and Access) and internet applications required.

Special Requirements:
  • It is required to maintain full COVID Vaccination status.
  • This is an in-person position located in Greensboro, North Carolina
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check.
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle. Mileage accrued while executing work responsibilities is reimbursable by CWS.
