Buena Vista University invites applications for the position of University Mental Health Counselor. This position provides mental health services for BVU students at the Storm Lake campus. Ideal candidates have a passion for serving young adults and an excitement for working in a college environment. The role is a full-time, 10-month, benefited position with summers off. The counselor joins a dynamic team in the BVU Wellness Center and works in collaboration with the Wellness Director and Campus Nurse to serve students and promote holistic wellness through direct service and engaging educational programming. The primary responsibility of the position is to serve BVU Storm Lake students as the University's in-person mental health counselor. Skills and experience in consultation, assessment, and counseling through individual and/or group sessions is required. The counselor also provides leadership in mental health crisis interventions. The counselor should have an interest in helping students with common issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, academic difficulties, career development, and interpersonal relationships. Additionally, as a member of the Wellness Center team, the University Mental Health Counselor will work collaboratively to develop and implement proactive educational experiences to address the mental health needs of the campus community. Ideal candidates should be eager to both provide direct care and be part of a wellness team that seeks to educate students about their health and wellbeing. A Master's degree is required. Licensed Mental Health Counselor; Licensed Psychologist; or the ability to obtain a license in the State of Iowa is required. The ability to supervise other mental health and/or substance abuse providers based on experience and/or licensure is preferred.
