DESCRIPTION:
As a Summer Engineering Intern at the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), you'll have the opportunity to supplement your classroom experience with valuable hands-on engineering experience working in the field on various highway construction projects.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation is the State Agency responsible for the planning, development, design, and construction of the state highway system. We employ more than 2,000 professionals statewide which includes more than 170 Civil Engineers. This internship may be located in Ainsworth, O'Neill, or Valentine.

JOB DUTIES:
Interns will be mentored and trained to perform inspection on routine phases of construction projects. May use computer programs to keep construction records and documentation, including Windows and web-based programs, computer-aided drafting & design (CADD), Microsoft Office, and mobile applications. May also participate as a member of a survey crew and perform tests on construction materials. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED: Coursework, training, and/or experience in math, construction management, and engineering. Basic computer experience.

OTHER: Must be currently pursuing a degree in an Engineering discipline. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Effective communication skills. Must have strong work ethic, dedication and ability to work as part of a team. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds, climb, bend, stoop, walk long distances, and work in outdoor temperature extremes; work the schedule required by the hiring supervisor which may include working overtime and/or irregular work hours as needed; perform routine tasks using a computer, including word processing and Excel spreadsheets.
