    Student internship requirements are in accordance with the terms and conditions of a Student Internship Agreement.

    Description:
    Students enrolled in an identified LAEP (Learning-Aligned Employment Program) program of study at Coastline College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College may participate in a related internship. To qualify for a LAEP internship, students need to meet financial aid needs and other specific student eligibility requirements. LAEP Student Interns perform program-specific technical, analytical, and research functions of assigned work projects, reports, and other career-related assignments; assignments provide work experience and training in a related career program. A student shall only be placed in an educationally beneficial position that relates to the student's area of study, career objective, or the exploration of career objectives.

  • Depending on the specific Student Intern assignment, require limited independent judgment and decision-making.

  • Qualifications:
  • Students must be enrolled in classes for the current semester and awarded LAEP through the financial aid office to be eligible for a Student Intern-LAEP position under the LAEP funding.

    Non-academic, non-classified Student Interns-LAEP are not part of the classified service.

    The Education Code prohibits displacement of classified personnel and impairment of existing contracts by either the employment of full-time or part-time students in any college work-study program or in a work experience education program. Student Assistants are at-will employees, have no entitlement rights to any position in the District, and are not benefits eligible.

    Employment is contingent upon verification of LAEP award, class schedule, employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Student Intern-LAEP assignments do not offer fringe benefits or pay for holidays or time not worked. The hours of work and the effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

  • Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.
  • The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in Coast Community College District policies, procedures, and Title IX. (Reference: BP/AP 5910)
