Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties. We are currently seeking a Special Projects Team Supervisor to oversee a team of Construction Project Managers undertaking a portfolio of non-capital projects. The team specializes in smaller projects that require quick turnaround times, and detailed customer engagement to define the scope and project parameters. The Team Supervisor will manage the team, support completion of maintenance backlog projects, and undertake projects of their own from start to finish.

The position has overall responsibility for the safe and successful outcome of all the Special Project Team projects and team administration. It requires a candidate capable of running projects while also: intaking projects for the team through multiple channels, meeting with stakeholders to help define the project scope, allocating projects to team members, and pushing projects through design, estimating, funding, and construction within the agreed time and cost parameters.

They serve as the liaison for their team across multiple levels of management. They help problem solve and advise their teams on actions that will result in successful project completion, including the use of established UVA project management tools and processes.

Job Description

  • Receive incoming requests for projects from multiple channels
  • Meet with stakeholders to define the needs and desired project outcomes
  • Analyze the work requests and liaise with other team leaders regarding project design input
  • Drive and monitor the project design process
  • Create/request project estimates
  • Take projects though the permit process when needed
  • Liaise with customers and funding sources to secure project funding
  • Allocate projects to members of the team, ensuring a balanced workload for staff
  • Monitor project progress of all team members and support the needs of the team at all phases
  • Ensure all staff use project planning tools and process correctly, and consistently
  • Ensure all staff perform the required actions in AIM and eBuilder fully and on time
  • Take the lead in resolving inter team issues, focused on establishing processes to avoid reoccurrence
  • Support the training needs of team, keeping them aware of organizational changes and instructions
  • Report to leadership on project completion and potential issues
  • Undertake all regular team management duties such as daily time and vacation requests
  • Undertake construction project management on projects of one's own
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field. Additional experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

Experience: Four years' experience in project or construction management, commercial construction, or related field. Without a degree, eight years of experience may be accepted.

Licensure: No license required, Registered Professional Architect or Engineer preferred.

Salary range starting from: $75,000 - increasing dependent on skills and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee will be required to drive, travel, climb stairs, and sit for sustained periods of time keyboarding to perform their jobs.
