About the Role:

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and building the next generation of products and capabilities that protect and improve PayPal's reliability. You will be driving technology direction, building key components, and mentoring other software engineers. You will bring industry expertise of reliable large scale distributed systems and thought leadership to solve problems at PayPal scale such as limiting the blast radius of bad changes, programmatically identifying site health degradation root causes, and autonomously remediating site issues.

What You'll Do
  • Drive the technical strategy for PayPal's reliability platform, identifying and executing on big opportunities while delivering incremental value
  • Lead top organization initiatives with hands-on contributions to improve performance and availability of PayPal products
  • Help grow the next generation of technical leaders by collaborating on projects and providing feedback
  • Evangelize best practices for building highly available products with quality and observability across PayPal
  • Define SDLC best practices for a team of 40+ software engineers

What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering, including technical leadership roles
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing (technical proposals, design specs, architecture diagrams and presentations)
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and drive consensus on technical decisions
  • Design experience with distributed systems in the cloud (AWS / GCP)
  • Expert knowledge of SRE / DevOps best practices
  • Strong Linux skills and understanding of operating systems
  • Experience building solutions in Java
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform
  • Experience with observability tools and best practices (Splunk, DataDog, etc)
  • Experience with release engineering and progressive rollouts is a nice to have
