SR PROJECT MANAGER

PURPOSE

Leads project management including overall portfolio optimization and direct management of the largest and most important capital projects within the portfolio. Works in a collaborative team environment to develop, drive and support project management processes, tools and discipline throughout the division. Must possess strong leadership, planning, problem solving, troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills including project scoping and chartering, IRR and CER development, budgeting, direct and indirect leadership skills, and governance processes. Must be an active and positive contributor to the safety culture.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and deploys Project Management processes and tools governing the successful management of larger capital projects within the Magnesia Specialties division, transforming the way we launch and execute projects within the division. The overall Project Management platform should cover and include project scoping and chartering, IRR and CER development when applicable, project budgeting and timeline development, critical path identification, and a formal governance process driving project execution.
  • Guides and works collaboratively and cross-functionally on the initiation, design and implementation phases of capital projects.
  • Develops and prepares consolidated division-level project portfolio status reports for regular communication at multiple levels.
  • Actively manages multiple projects within the divisional project portfolio, utilizing the processes and tools developed:
    • Monitors construction sites and is actively involved in working with general contractors and workers to ensure a high level of safety, quality and adherence to project schedules and budgets.
    • Reviews and manages contractor and subcontractor bids.
    • Ensures that the project is constructed and documented in accordance with the contract document and good engineering practices.
    • Develops and maintains project cost/change controls, and project budget and accounting records.
    • Actively tracks each aspect of project performance against schedules; oversees vendor work to ensure compliance with contract expectations and financial outcomes.
    • Coordinates and monitors schedule updates, invoices, and submittals.
    • Manage and review the progress of contractor's construction schedules.
    • Reviews weekly and monthly reports on the status and progress of the contracts, including project costs and potential changes.
    • Identifies and addresses areas of concern regarding potential liabilities and risk.
    • Supports regulatory compliance including required testing, data collection, and record retention; Drives preparation and submission of appropriate permits and regulatory reporting.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Construction Management; and/or Bachelor's Degree with related experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience required
  • Experience with large manufacturing facilities construction sites preferred
  • Project Management Institute PMP Certification preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge, expertise and experience with professional-level project management tools and techniques.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to successfully communicate at multiple levels-divisional leadership, salaried staff, contractors, hourly workforce, and more.
  • Experience working in and around construction sites with strong hazard recognition abilities.
  • Risk assessment/management.
  • Ability to manage multiple mid-size to large projects simultaneously.
  • Conflict management and problem-solving skills with demonstrated use of RCA methods.
  • Strategic planning, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Technology savvy with strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project or other similar Project Management software.
  • Strong experience in project budgeting, contract negotiations and scheduling.
  • Must be self-motivated with minimal supervision with the ability to work with all levels of workforce, management, and outside resources.
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License
  • Lift up to 35 pounds
  • Visual acuity, clear speech & hearing ability, cognitive ability, hand/eye coordination
  • Walking, climbing stairs and occasional ladders, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this position
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and vision to safely fulfill all in-plant job requirements
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and in industrial environment around hot, noisy process equipment
  • Pass required background check, physical examination and drug screens
