We are looking for a SeniorMotion Control Engineerto join our Product Engineering (Electrical) team working on developing abrasive water jet cutting systems at our OMAX Headquartersjust outside of Seattle in Kent, Washington. Relocation assistance is available. This position bringsmachine motion controland general electrical engineering expertise to a team working with new and existing OMAX products.

In this role, you will have an impact by:
  • Helping to define system-level control architectures and functional requirements with a particular focus on elements related to multi-axis machine motion control.
  • Applying expertise related to the implementation of open-loop steppers, closed-loop BLDC servos, linear drive mechanisms, and rotary actuators to characterize and optimize positioner performance.
  • Specifying, configuring, programming, and tuning servo systems for optimal performance within waterjet systems.
  • Leveraging experience in applying industrial machine control components and technologies to develop highly reliable products used in electrically noisy environments.
  • Applying senior-level electrical engineering expertise to lead technical development efforts in a product design environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 7+ years' work experience in a product development environment with specific expertise in machine motion and control (Field-bus based motion control, stepper/servo drive systems, positioners involving dual-loop feedback, gantry stage control, PID tuning, traction drive positioning systems, lead screw/ball screw positioning systems)
  • Familiar with the selection, application, interfacing, and programming of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo drives, servo power supplies, and motor control circuits/components
  • Ability to prepare and analyze power and control circuit schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, one-line diagrams, and assembly drawings
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and compliance landscape surrounding industrial machine tools safety (CE Machine Safety/EMC, NFPA79, UL 508A, ANSI B11, Functional Safety, RoHS, etc.)
  • Professional attitude and the ability to communicate and work across many levels of the organization, including Management, Technical Support, Applications, and Customers

Preferred:
  • Experience and/or interest in embedded control systems and programming (ARM, Microchip, C/C++, Assembly; USB, I^2C, Ethernet communications)
  • Circuit design capabilities including the use of schematic capture and PCB design software (Altium or Eagle preferred)
  • Experience with EMI/EMC compliance topics
  • Design experience and capabilities related to Industrial Control Panels (UL 508A)
