We are currently seeking applications to fill the following job opening at Celgard where we develop and manufacture membrane battery separators that are critical components used in lithium-ion batteries for electric drive vehicles (EDVs) and energy storage systems (ESS).

Job Description:

The Senior Director, Manufacturing is responsible for setting direction that will improve operational performance efficiency and effectiveness across the two plants in Concord and Charlotte North Carolina and Shanghai. This includes setting and implementing strategies that drive overall improvements in environmental safety and health (EHS) compliance, product quality, productivity (cost structure), asset utilization, improved work processes, waste reduction and minimizing variation throughout the business. This position will report to Polypore's CEO.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

Execute on current business plan to achieve revenue, volume and profitability commitments Establish and manage operational objectives, key performance indicators, and standardize business processes and metrics across the global operations. Establish an annual productivity plan; track and build contingency plans to meet financial and operational commitments. Establish and lead the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives while improving the overall manufacturing flexibility at each plant. Evaluate plant capacity constraints and develop proposals for modernization, new or expansion facilities. Develop and implement a three year capital manufacturing and engineering strategy to achieve lowest cost manufacturing for chosen product lines and market segments. Collaborate with peers to create best practices related to all functions to further align with overall business strategy. Act as a key driver of change within the business, supporting cross-functional decisions by communicating the enterprise wide changes to employees that will help them learn, understand, adjust and grow with the company's Operational Excellence approach. Develop and manage annual financial benefit and cost budgets related to major initiatives. Ensures general practices are consistent with company policies, environmental and safety standards, service standards and applicable laws and regulation Develop the Operation organization talent pool in partnership with Human Resources Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, or other related field, and an MBA or Masters in a related field is preferred
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in global manufacturing, including plant expansions, plant leadership
  • Track record of building and maintaining a strong and enduring organizations, including development of leaders
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in plant restructuring while retaining key employees
  • Demonstrated use of continuous improvement systems, tools and process, to include Lean, Six Sigma with the ability to use methodologies including, but not limited to, Goal Deployment, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, 5S implementation, one-piece flow, etc.
  • Experience building high performing teams, with a proven track record of execution and delivering on an organization's goals and objectives
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Change management experience with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability as a productive and collaborative executive team member
  • Strong evidence of developing talent and leading an organization to excellence
  • Proven ability to effectively lead & manage within a fast-paced, high-growth, complex organization, with global operations & relationships
