About the North America Financial Institution (FI) Partnerships Team

The FI Partnerships team for North America has for years played a critical role in creating and maintaining relationships with banks and other financial institutions to drive mutual value creation with PayPal. We have, with large and small FIs alike, forged strategic agreements built on technical integrations, marketing arrangements, and unique digital experiences that have dramatically improved customer engagement, transaction volume, and revenue for PayPal and our Bank partners. We are looking to forge ahead into new territory, deepening the integrations, expanding our Platform offerings to FIs, and finding new ways to create value.

We are seeking a high-energy and innovative professional with a passion for improving how PayPal serves its customers by better partnering with the financial ecosystem and the acumen necessary to lead a high performing team. The Senior Director - Financial Institution Partner Business Development position is responsible for overseeing some of the most critical partnerships for the company. You will become the primary face of PayPal to North American bank partners and help lead a cross-functional team to drive new, innovative partnership opportunities that build on PayPal's strong foundations, deliver measurable value to the company, and help it better serve its customers. The role will require you to lean heavily on the value drivers of our FI partners, find opportunities within our existing Platform solutions to match those value drivers, and find new opportunities to address unmet needs, all of this in close collaboration with our Product, Engineering, Professional Services, and Marketing organizations.

The position is highly visible and involves frequent interaction with executive leaders at PayPal and external bank partners.

This role is US-based, with preference for proximity to PayPal offices in SF Bay Area, NYC, Chicago, Omaha, Austin; however, remote is an option.

Key Responsibilities & Accountability:
  • Develop and deliver PayPal's strategy, in collaboration with the Product organization, to drive growth through product, channel, and network partnerships with financial institutions
  • Guide and lead the team responsible for: structuring complex strategic partnership negotiations and implementations with financial institutions, and supporting partnerships from idea to contract to execution to ongoing growth
  • Identify new business opportunities for PayPal and bank partners within our suite of Platform solutions
  • Consult and advise on the implications of new PayPal products and services to our bank partners' shared customer base, as well as the implications of new bank partner products and services on PayPal's business
  • Inform product roadmap across a heavily matrized organization based on bank partners' priorities, needs, and market demand
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner bank executives to solve PayPal's and merchants' issues in a timely and effective way
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-regional teams, liaise and communicate with global executive teams on a regular basis
  • Provide support and expertise for PayPal's bank partnerships in other regions globally

Skills, Experience and Education:
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinker with ability to put complex ideas into clear frameworks
  • Deep understanding of new products/technologies in payments and banking
  • Comfort using data to evaluate hypotheses and to communicate ideas
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and execute partnership opportunities
  • Track record of delivering tangible results with partners/clients
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Superior communication and influencing skills
  • People motivation and development skills; extensive experience in people management
  • Appetite to learn and adapt quickly and be comfortable with uncertainty
  • 10-15+years experience in related fields, with expertise in banking or payments, both consumer and commercial
  • Enterprise-level business development or relationship management experience
  • Evidence of progressive career development with increasing job scope and responsibility
  • Canadian market experience a plus
  • Product or technical experience a plus

Colorado [and/or] New York City Only: The pay range for this position is as mentioned below per year, plus annual bonus. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary.
