Responsibilities

How Will You Contribute to the Company?

Cradlepoint's R&D Data team is seeking a highly motivated and self-driven Sr. Data Engineer with experience in building data pipelines used to enable near-real-time analytics systems and AI/ML model building. Qualified candidates possess not only an understanding of how to build high-performing data pipelines but have a deep understanding of how the underlying large-scale data systems are designed and implemented. Successful candidates are able to build complex data pipelines for Cradlepoint backend systems with little to no guidance. You will work with a group of extremely high-performing engineers who design, implement, and support end-to-end SaaS solutions. You are adaptable and a flexible problem-solver with an algorithmic approach, technical expertise, engineering & analytics skills, and product sense to successfully pivot/context-switch amongst many projects with a variety of scale and complexity. With your breadth of knowledge, you are often sought after for guidance and mentorship as well.

What Will You Do?

  • Review and interpret business and technical requirements and understand use case objectives
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Determine structured and unstructured data requirements by blending the needs of the business with the feasibility of current and emerging data technologies and architecture standards
  • Provide best practice direction and hands-on implementation of optimized data access solutions
  • Implement tooling for Secure Storage, Disaster Recovery and Backup strategies
  • Ensure Data Governance best practices with developers. Help investigate and resolve data anomalies including data quality issues and ambiguous data definitions. Recommend data integrity checks and controls to ensure data quality
  • Propose data lineage strategy for regulatory and governance purposes
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
  • Work closely with the data science/business intelligence teams to develop data models and pipelines for research and reporting
  • Support security and compliance audits
Qualifications
  • MS/BS in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent, with 4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Deep understanding of traditional and modern data ingestion, data storage, data processing and data access technologies.
  • Experience with various modern database systems and a grasp of their strengths/weaknesses, e.g., graph databases, Mongo, Cassandra, Redis, Hadoop, Spark, etc.
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.
  • Experience working in AWS and understanding tools/techniques for data ingestion and analytics.
  • Experience with automation tooling (auditing, backup/restore, discovery, schema deployment)
  • Expertise in data security best practices, especially in a cloud or hybrid setting, including data access controls and tools, auditing, encryption/securing data at rest and in transit, privacy/anonymization constraints, etc.
  • Experience with modern programming languages like Java, Python, etc., as well as scripting and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform

Bonus Points:
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Thoughtspot, Tableau, or similar
  • Experience with Snowflake
  • Experience with building statistical models and developing machine learning algorithms
  • Data engineering certification (e.g., Google Cloud Platform Certified Professional Data Engineer/ AWS Certified Data Analytics)
