Basic Job Functions:

Conduct sample preparation techniques of sectioning, mounting, grinding and polishing using laboratory equipment and performed microstructural evaluation on heat treated samples using a stereoscope and optical microscope. Plan and implement the laboratory daily operations for Metallography and Heat Treatment, nodularity (PAXit), and CMM, design and directly the testing of processing procedures. Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions. Micro-evaluate to determine the heat treatment condition, case depth, decarburization, material cleanliness and PPAP for automotive industries. Modify properties of metal alloys, using thermal and mechanical treatments. Operate Mechanical Testing (NDT/DT) to maintain the calibration of lab equipment such as Spectrometer, LECO, Brinell, Vickers & Rockwell machines and brinell (King Scan) and rockwell hardness. Perform various inspection methods on valves (Hydro test - Hardness test - Vacuum test - Tensile test). Create detail work instruction manual and daily checklist sheets for spark emission spectrometer, LECO carbon -sulfur machine and NDT ultrasonic inspection machines. Process customer returns to investigate quality issues and developed reports to the quality departments. Process daily shipping audits to ensure right parts are shipped out to the customers. Monitor discipline in the lab floor for an accident free & safe work-culture and regular preventive maintenance of equipment to ensure smooth running in the shift. Apply value stream mapping (VSM), 5S, JIT, SPC, creating sign boards (ANDON) and involved with ISO 9001:2005 Quality Management System (QSM). Inspect all incoming raw materials (Slabs, Plates, Scrap, Ingots) to ensure they meet the specifications ordered. Assist in melting and heat treat department with charge additions, oven and free, desulfurization process, furnace temperature levels, ladle pouring temperatures, alloy fade times, tap weights & alloy additions. Work on equipment and tools such as Thermodynamics/Phase Diagrams, Material Process & Selection, Failure Analysis, XED, SEM, SPC, FMEA, PPAP, APQP, RPN. Collaborate with operators and managers to identify and remove bottlenecks using theory of constraints and 8D. Used root cause analysis and Six Sigma to investigate and prevent manufacturing non-conformance.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and two (2) years of experience with product development and technical laboratory operations as a steel industry metallurgist. Experience must include: Hot rolling and/or metallography/heat treatment processes of steel, Operating Mechanical Testing (NDT/DT) to maintain the calibration of lab equipment such as Spectrometer, LECO, Brinell, Vickers & Rockwell machines. Utilizing root cause analysis and six sigma to investigate and prevent manufacturing non-conformance. Experience in ISO 9001: 2015 QMS (Quality Management System), ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control and DFM (Design for Manufacturing). Experience in Thermodynamics/Phase Diagrams to predict phase changes, support the materials process & selection and failure analysis. Lean Six Sigma Certification and ASNT Ultrasonic Testing Level-II Certification required.
