502379 - The psychiatric nurse practitioner's primary role is to provide psychiatric care to the students at the University of Richmond. This includes psychiatric evaluations, prescribing medication, follow-up appointments, consultation, and crisis intervention.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES: Provides psychiatric evaluations and medical assessments, prescribes medications and monitors their effects in a therapeutic setting. Orders lab testing when indicated. Consults and collaborates with CAPS staff as well as the Student Health Center (when appropriate) to provide collaborative care for students. Provides occasional consultation and training on psychiatric issues to the staff of CAPS and the Student Health Center. Becomes familiar with and utilizes referral sources within the University and external community. If does not have authorization for autonomous practice, maintains a collaborative relationship with a collaborating psychiatrist and adheres to the licensing board's requirements regarding said collaboration.

CASE MANAGEMENT: Keeps accurate and timely records of appointments (e.g., intake notes, progress notes, email, telephone communication) using the online Titanium record-keeping software; maintains confidentiality of records; consults with other professionals as needed to coordinate treatment; participates in CAPS case conference meetings; consults with parents and on- and off-campus professionals with appropriate authorization; informs the Director as soon as possible of students who may be at serious risk

CRISIS INTERVENTION: Provides crisis walk-in and other psychiatric emergency intervention as needed. Helps facilitate the processing of both voluntary and involuntary hospitalizations.

OTHER DUTIES: Adheres to CAPS policies and procedures. Cooperates with accountability, data collection, and quality improvement processes. Attends regular staff meetings. Attends CAPS, Health and Well-being, and Student Development meetings and events, when possible. Occasionally leads or co-leads training or outreach workshops or seminars. Performs other duties as requested by the CAPS Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional knowledge of adult and college student mental health issues.
  • Ability to form effective working relationships with individuals across lines of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, and sexual orientation.
  • Up-to-date on new developments in psychotropic medication, side effects, and medication safety.
  • If does not have authorization for autonomous practice, is able to maintain a collaborative relationship with a collaborating psychiatrist.
  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn to use Electronic Health Records systems that CAPS and the Student Health Center use.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to multicultural competency and working with individuals from underrepresented and/or underserved populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively, flexibly, and collegially with the CAPS staff team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required
  • Current Licensed Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia (unrestricted) required
  • Certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
  • Current Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license required
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing mental health evaluations and medication services to college age young adults required. (five or more years preferred).
WORK HOURS:
  • Part-time, non-exempt position
  • August - May (38 weeks); approx. 26 hours a week/less than 1,000 hours per year
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 11 (Salary Commensurate with Experience)
