Job Summary: The Programmer Analyst III designs, develops, supports, and codes moderate- to high-complexity software and hardware systems to support the administrative function of the University under minimal supervision. This may include enterprise and highly critical applications. Develops processes and web applications. Creates workflows. Installs, customizes, supports, and creates integrations for vendor-supplied software systems. Works on a team and collaborates with specific departments, colleges, and customers around campus. Supports their needs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and responding to their questions and concerns in a timely manner.

Additional Department Summary: Designs, develops, and supports moderate to high complexity software and hardware systems to support the administrative function of the university, including enterprise and highly critical applications. Acts as a consultant in residence. Works directly with a single department as the primary resource to support the department's IT needs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and responding to their questions and concerns in a timely manner, under the supervision of centralized IT in OIT. As a member of central IT, this position will have access to a department of professional IT resources who can assist when necessary. Develops, maintains, and supports software processes, web applications, reporting suites, and training materials. Maintains websites using WordPress. Installs, customizes, supports, and creates integrations for vendor-supplied software systems. Analyzes and resolves problems arising with the use of software systems. Manages hardware inventory and upgrades. Supports the Research Administration group within the Office for Research & Economic Development (ORED). Supports electronic research administration applications (eRA). Manages the department's reporting needs, pulling data from various systems, such as Cayuse and Ellucian's Banner ERP.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and two (2) years of IT programming experience; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of IT programming experience; OR associate's degree and six (6) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of IT programming; OR High school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of IT programming.

Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of programming, with languages such as C#, .NET, PHP, Oracle PL/SQL, or Java. Substantial web development knowledge concepts, including HTML, XML, JSON, Javascript, and MVC concepts. Relational databases knowledge. Ability to write and analyze SQL queries and reports, and ability to analyze table data structures. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to work with customer groups and users of varying degrees of technical ability and understanding. Ability to manage work tasks using Atlassian JIRA tickets and follow through to completion. Effective time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Troubleshooting skills to independently learn of, analyze, track, and resolve issues. Ability to implement departmental and critical third-party applications, analyzing installation and configuration documentation, to successfully install and take on support for an application. High level of experience supporting moderately complex systems and troubleshooting application issues. High level of experience with working with customers, gathering, and analyzing requirements. Ability to analyze database tables, understand how tables and data connect, and analyze patterns in the data to gain insights. Base knowledge of managing Windows Server applications, including IIS management and configuration and a base knowledge of Linux commands.

Preferred Qualifications: Three (3) years of experience in relevant IT fields (development and maintenance of software applications, relational database management systems, computer programming, web development, or system administration). High level of experience supporting or working with higher education and University of Alabama administrative applications and tools, such as Cayuse and Ellucian Banner. Substantial experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases and familiarity with the creation and management of database objects including tables, triggers, indexes, and procedures.
