Job Description Summary

The primary role of this full-time position is working with investigators to provide conceptual and technical support, in addition to oversight for 20+ research projects involving mixed method and qualitative methodologies. The Program Manager B will oversee the implementation, analysis and dissemination of complex Mixed Methods Research Lab (MMRL) research projects. S/he will collaborate with faculty and investigators throughout the university as well as University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and broader research communities.

Job Description

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health Program Manager B will support a growing research program within the Mixed Methods Research Lab focused on capturing contextual, socio-cultural and experiential factors that contribute to health disparities. The primary role of this full-time position is working with investigators to provide conceptual and technical support, in addition to oversight for 20+ research projects involving mixed method and qualitative methodologies. The Program Manager B will oversee the implementation, analysis and dissemination of complex Mixed Methods Research Lab (MMRL) research projects. S/he will collaborate with faculty and investigators throughout the university as well as University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and broader research communities.

Job responsibilities will include consultation, grant submission, research protocol design, data collection, analysis, and publication. This position will also oversee personnel management and the daily incremental progress on each project. The Program Manager will train, educate, and mentor junior faculty within the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) as well as external researchers in the qualitative, mixed method, and science of community engagement research approach to investigating health-related research questions. The Program Manager will build upon the MMRL's growing expertise in the science of community engagement research methods by providing lectures, trainings, and strategic outreach, as well as coordinating qualitative and mixed methods research efforts across UPHS and the University for expert consultation as needed. The Program Manager will lead and coordinate dissemination initiatives through newsletters, conferences, and academic publications. This will include analyzing data, writing manuscripts, finding new avenues for outreach, and coordinating the dissemination efforts of other qualitative and mixed methods researchers within DFMCH. The Program Manager will assist in the hiring of new staff, training, management, and professional development.

The position requires experience in the development of manuscripts, as well as methodological experience necessary to guide MMRL staff and student workers (including the responsibility to lead trainings on mixed method and qualitative techniques to staff and collaborators). The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously and in collaboration with internal and external investigators, including both clinicians and faculty researchers. The successful candidate must have prior experience in the following methodologies: focus groups, semi-to-unstructured interviews, participant observations, multidimensional scaling, qualitative array, incorporated within case-control, randomized controlled trial, retrospective and prospective cohort designs. Prior experience with IRB guidelines, policies, human subject research practices and advanced professional skills in the execution of research protocols is required. Exceptional writing and editing skills, effective communication with multiple constituencies including faculty, staff, internal and external partners, professional organizations, advocacy groups, and government agencies, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment are also required.

Qualifications
Master's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
