We are looking for a Product Manager to join the Product team in Mueller's metering business to focus specifically on Meters and Registers. The Metering Product team already consists of a Product Director, a Product Manager for Communicating Devices, and a Product Manager for Software Services. The Metering Business is under new leadership that brings a wealth of relevant technology experience. The Product team is key to defining product requirements that meet customers' and the business' needs, and ensuring that those are delivered in a timely fashion by the Engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather and assimilate information on the market, the customer and the problem customers have that we're trying to solve from all product stakeholders including corporate (strategic business objectives, SWOT), pre-sales (client needs, tender specifications), marketing (competitors, launch plan, promoting the product), sales (client needs, go-to-market, pricing), development/engineering/QA/testing (technical specification, technical possibilities), supply chain/manufacturing/operations (execution)
  • Develop product strategy and roadmap for both new and existing products including adjacent market opportunities to create growth and protect share based on a solid understanding of the market, the customer and the problem they have that we're trying to solve, in consultation with, and ensuring that you have the support of, the stakeholders listed above; assessing and making recommendations on the benefits of build vs buy and identifying potential acquisition targets
  • Review and respond to product suggestions that are submitted
  • Define product functional, cost and quality requirements in an MRD based on customer needs and business objectives, for both new and existing products, ensuring review and input by stakeholders for NPD stage gate 3
  • Manage and present product development through NPD stage gates 1 and 2, ensuring that ServiceNow is up-to-date and all required documentation is completed; hand off to the appropriate project manager for gates 3 and beyond where one is assigned, otherwise manage product development through all stage gates
  • Work with engineering to ensure that adequate resources are allocated as required
  • Provide clarifications in relation to requirements to engineering teams as development progresses as required, updating the requirements documentation as appropriate
  • Work with product marketing to ensure that there is appropriate sales support and technical support documentation and training relating to product such that commercialization and support objectives are achieved cost-effectively
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success for both new and existing products
  • Develop pricing strategies and ensure product profitability for both new and existing products, setting product pricing and ensuring this is approved and communicated as required
  • Evangelise the product vision and progress internally and externally
  • Work with sales to support sales efforts as required
  • Work with technical support as a third line support as required, assisting technical support to be self-sufficient

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills with an ability to assimilate and synthesise large amounts of information
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Proven track record of launching successful hardware and software products
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) design principles where software is involved
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies where software is involved

Experience preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Business)
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, with a focus on hardware products
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing multiple stakeholders
  • Understanding or experience of quality and manufacturing
  • Strong project management skills

Work location:
  • Proximity to the Head Office in Atlanta, GA and/or the Manufacturing Plant in Cleveland, NC
  • Home or either of these locations can be the primary work location, with an expectation of time in one or both of these facilities on a regular basis if home is the primary
  • A certain amount of travel is expected to tradeshows, customers, and key suppliers
