Primary Function of Position:

The primary role for this position is to partner with Research & Development to develop and sustain a portfolio of high-quality surgical simulation products through design, documentation and training. Work closely with Product Manager through the New Product Development process. Routinely meet with Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Production Managers to review and improve production processes.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide value engineering input during all stages of model development
  • Convert validated product prototype (Prototype Model) to manufacturing ready model (Production Model)
  • Create Production Model Design Documentation in hardcopy, digital and video formats detailing:
    • Design of model and required templates
    • Manufacturing training process and reference materials
    • Quality control systems
    • Intellectual property documentation
  • Assist Product Manager with New Model Development Process including:
    • Manufacturing Cost Estimates
    • Manufacturing Capacity and Launch Schedule
    • Manufacturing Validation with KOL’s
    • Product Pilot and Launch
  • Provide initial training to tissue technicians on new or revised models
  • Create and execute design of experiments for testing new materials and/or manufacturing processes to enhance product quality, functionality and potential reduction in manufacturing time. 
  • Develop incremental design improvements based on customer feedback
  • Develop Intuitive product knowledge as well as hands-on ability to operate dV systems
  • Work independently across functions including with Research & Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Customer Training

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree in Biomedical Engineering or similar
  • Minimum 3 years experience in design, development or operations, preferably in medical device
  • Comfortable working with animal tissue
  • Strong knowledge of surgical/laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, and procedures preferred
  • Expert level of competency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to present internal training course material to individuals and groups and to effectively facilitate their learning process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
