Purpose

The Power Controls Systems and Grid Code Engineer is a key member of a 24/7 mission critical operations team responsible for providing the technical support & analytical services with limited supervision for the management, design, specification, configuration, troubleshooting, and support of systems and processes that affect operation of renewable generation control systems. This position is located in Vancouver, WA.

Responsibilities

• Project management of controls related projects from conception to completion.
• Conduct monitoring, data collection and analysis for control system optimization.
• Understand the Grid Code of Transmission System Operators such as NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, WECC, CAISO, PJM, BPA, or other system authorities.
• Maintain the active and reactive power control systems for renewable energy facilities.
• Have full operation and ownership of all power plant control systems.
• Good knowledge of basic principles of power generation and electrical principles.
• Understanding of PLC's and programming Controls/Logic, SEL-5033 RTAC experience is required.
• Working Knowledge of renewable energy power controls, PID tuning principles, process loop tuning, and testing is required.
• Working knowledge of power systems communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, ICCP, OPC, IEC 61850
• Knowledge Windows based computers, VM Hosts and related hardware/software.
• Experience with the following programming languages: .NET, Visual Basic, C#, #, IEC 61131 Logic, structured text etc.
• Advanced-level ability to read, modify and create electrical schematics
• Experience with ORCAD Capture, Pspice or Matlab/Simulink
• Ability to work hands-on in a testing environment to develop control systems
• Understanding of computer networking and cyber-security best practices.
• Comply with NERC / CIP procedures.
• 10-20% Travel required

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years' experience reviewing, editing, and understanding interconnection and power purchase agreements.
• 5+ years' experience performing and reviewing load flow and reactive power studies for new and existing renewable energy power plants.
• 5+ years designing and implementing Power Control systems.
• 5+ years' experience with various programming languages: .NET, Visual Basic, C#, IEC 61131 Logic, structured text, etc.
• 5+ years' experience in SEL-5033 RTAC programming.

• Ability to qualify to NERC standards including successful 7-year background investigation and security review.
• Proven ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with management, Plant Operations, and technical personnel.
• High energy and ability to work with little direct supervision.
