Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

Under general supervision, serves as a commissioned law enforcement officer responsible for training, mentoring and providing leadership guidance in the absence of a shift supervisor. As well as being responsible for the protection, safety, and welfare of students, staff, and visitors and for the protection of University property.

Essential Duties Summary:

*Patrols assigned area by foot, bicycle, or police vehicle to preserve the peace, enforce laws, prevent and detect crime, and respond to complaints.
*Answers calls regarding service, accidents, disturbances, crime, distress, or illness and provides information, assistance, and service to students, staff, and the public. Investigates illegal or suspicious activities, persons, and establishments, causes and results of accidents and completes required reports. Collects and preserves physical evidence, protects crime scene, and reports and records all facts of incident.
*Controls and directs traffic to enforce University parking regulations and departmental towing policies.
*Mediates and resolves conflicts involving students, department personnel and community members. Provides escort service as needed and assists state, county and city law enforcement authorities as requested.
*Conducts crime prevention programs and presentations for faculty, staff, students, and the surrounding community.
*Testifies at administrative hearings and in court to present evidence by describing conditions, situations and actions of individuals for a case.
*Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range:

$23.208620 - $29.0100

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent and specialized or technical training.

Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.

Required Licensing/Certification:

Licensed as a Texas peace officer through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. As well as a Master Peace Officer certification through Texas Commission for Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to:
*Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places.
*Use and care for firearms.
*Think and act quickly in emergencies, and to judge situations and people accurately.
*Operate a police radio and keyboard terminals.
*Understand and interpret laws and regulations.
*Perform specific assignments with minimal oral or written directions.
*Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive written reports.
*Deal courteously and effectively with the general public and departmental employees.
*Meet standards of adequate physical stature, endurance, and agility.
*Demonstrate practical knowledge of good understanding of human relations.
*Schedule, organize and supervise the work of subordinates.
*Interpret and apply laws and regulations.

Work Experience:

A minimum 8 years prior Law Enforcement experience.

12 years of police experience preferred.

Working/Environmental Conditions:

Work involves strenuous physical activities of various kinds with continuous exposure to hazardous substances, potentially dangerous situations, unpleasant work conditions such as adverse weather conditions or extreme risk of accident or ill health.
