The Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine seeks candidates for a Phlebotomist to work with the Basu lab. This position will support clinical research. The hours worked may be variable dependent on patient enrollment in study. This position must have expertise in venipuncture and maintaining IV patency for frequent blood draws. Prior experience in preparing IV infusions is a plus. Job related duties include communicating with the study team, processing blood samples, sample collections per study guidelines, attention to details, and following IRB-approved protocol.


The successful candidate will be expected to:
* Perform blood drawing/collection using a variety of techniques.
* Enter data documents and delivers samples.
* Provide a high standard of customer service maintains workflow and resolve problems.
* Demonstrate knowledge of quality, safety and compliance.
* Perform area-specific support/clinical activities.
* Work flexible hours as needed.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.


Qualified candidates must have:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year of relevant experience is preferred.
Licensure: Certification with a nationally recognized phlebotomy organization preferred.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
* Possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
* Ability to articulate information to investigators and other research team members.
* Availability to work flexible hours as needed.


Physical Demands:

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping and climbing (ladder, steps); Repetitive motion: extension and flexion at wrist. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. The anticipated start date is July 5, 2022. This position is a non-exempt restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Hiring salary range is commensurate with years of experience.

This position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen and drug screening are also required for this position prior to employment.
