About the Department:

Perkins School of Theology is one of the 13 seminaries of The United Methodist Church and one of only five university-related United Methodist theological schools, located in the heart of Dallas, Texas, with an extension program in Houston/Galveston. The faculty and staff of Perkins are committed to our mission of equipping persons for faithful leadership and Christian ministry in a changing church and society. Students study with a faculty, diverse both culturally and in theological perspective, in the School's graduate degree and certificate studies programs. About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

This position serves to connect with couples who are preparing for marriage in Perkins Chapel. The Perkins Chapel Wedding coordinator supports all aspects of the wedding ceremony; which includes scheduling, ongoing planning, onsite support for the wedding rehearsal and wedding ceremony. The position assists the Associate Director for Events & Facilities in the scheduling of other events within the Perkins complex.

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all inquiring couples and responsible for managing the wedding schedule and availability, giving tours, reviewing Perkins Chapel ceremony rules and guidelines, following SMU policies and answering any questions couples may have about having their ceremony in Perkins Chapel.
  • Administrator for all business aspects of weddings, including drafting legal contracts through DocuSign, tracking electronic payment and utilizing the SMU campus wide scheduling system called STABLE, maintaining wedding details through OneDrive/Excel, wedding deposits, scheduling/pay for contract staff (organist, sound technician).
  • Responsible for developing a marketing strategy to promote Perkins Chapel as a premier Dallas wedding ceremony venue. Improve Perkins Chapel's social media presence on Instagram, Facebook, wedding website, and various other platforms.
  • The Perkins Chapel Coordinator is responsible for working at a minimum, one wedding a month. Serves as the designated Perkins Chapel onsite wedding technician for the rehearsal on Friday and wedding on Saturday.
  • Assists the Associate Director for Events & Facilities in the coordination of other events within the Perkins complex and other duties as needed.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours will be required to meet with interested couples, fill in or help with a typically Saturday wedding, or assist with other after-hours events.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required.

A minimum of one year of experience is required. Prior experience in wedding planning or coordination is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate knowledge of effective dispute resolution skills is preferred.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with SMU STABLE and Sitecore is preferred.
