Required:

Masters Degree in Nursing.

Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas or State of residence, and evidence of having met faculty criteria designated by the TBON.

Preferred:

PhD In Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) or other related doctorate.

Primary Responsibilities:

Nursing faculty members are professional nurses who have the responsibility of providing quality education for nursing students attending SRSU BSN Program. They are appointed to part-time roles with availability to students for face-to-face learning activities in Alpine, TX, or close proximity. Many of the nursing faculty are part-time and are hired to teach either specific courses or content and/ or provide clinical supervision in their area of specialization and experience. Part-Time faculty are expected to focus on teaching and ate not required to participate in scholarship or tenure expectations. Both Full-time and Part-Time faculty are expected to participate in faculty governance, curriculum development, and evaluation.

Roles and Responsibilities
Maintains current knowledge in area of expertise.
Provides direct supervision & clinical guidance to assigned students
Demonstrates competency in content area and in development, presentation, and evaluation of instruction.
Demonstrates clinical expertise and maintains safety principles in designated teaching area.
Participates with administrators and other faculty members in departmental matters such as curriculum development, textbook selection, and other appropriate organizational interests through faculty and committee meetings.
Patriciates as a contributor in curriculum delivery, development and evaluation.
Assists students to lead and participate in debriefing sessions.
Develops instructional materials following syllabus guidelines.
Satisfies expected teaching responsibilities for assigned courses utilizing appropriate technology and evaluation of the teaching-learning process in the classroom, skills and simulation laboratories, and clinical setting, including collaboration and guidance with the preceptors as required.
Maintains and certifies class rosters, grade books, and submissions of final grades by official deadlines.
Follows specific guidelines for supervising students and preceptors in the clinical areas as appropriate.
Evaluates student performance in a reasonable manner according to program guidelines.
Applies and communicates in writing effective and equitable procedures in measuring student performance.
Seeks to establish rapport with students.
Creates an environment conducive to learning
Stimulates student thinking and exposes students to a wide variety of viewpoints.
Seeks and utilizes creative methods to present substantive course content.
Is punctual and dependable.
Is readily and reasonably available for student conference and counseling.
Is reasonably available to students through email, telephone, and/or office hours.
Is reasonable sensitive to individual student needs.
Maintains appropriate professional demeanor in teaching situations.
Establishes and supports ongoing relationships with the community to initiate new affiliating agencies and to assume responsiveness to the rural health needs of the community.

Scholarly/Artistic Endeavor
Utilizes opportunities to participate in research, writing, and publication, and presentations to represent the profession of Nursing and the University.

Professional Growth Activities
Maintains membership and contributions to applicable professional organizations.
Maintains and updates current knowledge in area of expertise.
Utilizes resources within and outside the University to Expand Knowledge.
Seeks appropriate learning resources, conferences and experiences to enhance nursing knowledge and skill.
Participates in self-evaluation and formal evaluation by the BSN Program Director yearly.
Encourages a culture of learning that values lifelong learning, ethics, respect for others and personal and professional development.

Utilizes available opportunities to recruit future nursing students.

Qualifications:
Maintains current knowledge and clinical expertise in subject area of teaching responsibility.
Meets same requirements for professional, experiential, and scholarly expectations as their full-time counterparts teaching in the same discipline.

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.
