Job Purpose:Reporting to the Structural Supervisor, the incumbent provides painting and occasional carpentry services at the journeyman level.
Job Summary:- Applies paint, varnish and other protective coatings to buildings, fixtures and furniture using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other tools as appropriate.
- Repairs surfaces/spackles; reglazes windows; prepares surfaces for painting; and protects adjacent areas with masking tape and drop cloths.
- Prepares surfaces and installs wallpaper; repairs wallpaper as necessary.
- Performs or assists with carpentry activities, including laying out work and constructing, erecting, installing and repairing structures and fixtures.
High school diploma, two years of professional experience in the painting trade and valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:Vocational training in painting gained either through formal education or a formal apprenticeship program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary:Considerable knowledge of the techniques, methods and best practices in the painting trade. Considerable skill in using the tools and equipment required to perform job duties. Ability to read and follow written instructions and directions. Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Ability to climb a ladder and work at heights above 40 feet. Ability to drive a university vehicle to and from work sites. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, co-workers and supervisors.
