LICENSED & BOARD-ELIGIBLE CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Austell, Georgia

Wellstar's Behavioral Health Service Line is pleased to announce a new position for a Clinical Psychologist. This clinician will support Wellstar's expanded behavioral health services at Wellstar Cobb Hospital, providing support for inpatient and outpatient services. The clinician will work with a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and masters-level therapists - with an aim of helping to develop a comprehensive behavioral health program that meets the needs of patients with primary psychiatric and substance use disorders. Working under the Department of Psychology, the psychologist will provide consultative, psychological testing, and intervention services to support the needs of patients with primary psychiatric and substance use disorders.

Wellstar Cobb Hospital is a 375+ bed hospital with well-developed clinical service lines, serving the southern region of Cobb County in the greater Atlanta area. Cobb Hospital is a primary hub of Wellstar's comprehensive behavioral health services for adults 18 years and older. On the Cobb Hospital campus, there is a 32-bed freestanding inpatient adult behavioral health unit and an outpatient behavioral health practice. These services will ensure that Wellstar patients have access to a continuum of behavioral health care to help manage symptoms stemming from a variety of psychiatric conditions.

Wellstar Cobb also provides access to mental health services through consultation-liaison services, which support the Cobb Hospital Emergency Department. These services are bolstered by a team of Masters-level therapists who work collaboratively with employed psychiatrists to ensure that patients receive optimal care. The psychologist will provide support for these Masters-level therapists to ensure adoption and adherence to clinical best practices.

Holding full Medical Staff privileges at Wellstar Cobb Hospital, the psychologist will provide occasional consultative/testing services within the hospital. Most of the clinician's clinical time, however, will occur within a new behavioral health outpatient clinic, located on the Cobb Hospital campus. (S)He will work alongside psychiatrists and other mental health professionals to support the needs of patients with various psychiatric and substance-related conditions.

Clinical Responsibilities: The clinical psychologist we are seeking will need a diverse skill set, with refined diagnostic and intervention skills. (S)He will function as a clinician with 70% time allocated to the provision of testing and intervention services for adults ages 18 and up. (S)He should be equipped to conduct brief (and when necessary more comprehensive) psychological testing, using a variety of methods including tests of intelligence, personality (objective and projective), etc. (S)He will write psychological reports and document using Wellstar's electronic medical record (i.e. Epic). In addition to testing, (s)he will provide brief interventions using evidence-based methods. (S)He should have the ability to apply cognitive-behavioral (CBT), acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), and other treatments to a heterogenous population. (S)He will consult regularly with Wellstar Cobb psychiatrists and others as needed in support of optimal clinical outcomes. At approximately 10% time, the psychologist will provide intermittent clinical supervision and trainings for masters-level therapists who provide behavioral health services in the Emergency Department and intensive outpatient program. Finally, in the remaining 20% clinical time, the psychologist will have opportunities to assert leadership in an area such as suicide prevention or substance abuse to support Behavioral Health Service Line initiatives.

Skills Needed: The ideal candidate will possess advanced assessment skills in the area of clinical psychology. (S)He should be familiar with a variety of psychological tests and methods, and possess the ability to integrate complex quantitative and qualitative information to formulate diagnostic conceptualizations. (S)He should be an astute observer of human behavior and a strong communicator - both verbally and in writing.

The psychologist should be comfortable working with patients with high acuity psychiatric conditions. (S)He should have advanced knowledge of risk factors related to suicidality and demonstrate sound professional judgment to determine when inpatient and/or involuntary treatment may be needed. Further, the psychologist should be a strong interventionist - able to apply evidence-based treatments to a heterogenous group of patients. (S)He should have the ability to apply his/her understanding of human motivations to facilitate meaningful behavioral changes.

The psychologist should exhibit professionalism and have the ability to assert him/herself effectively as a member of the Medical Staff. Although there is a strong cohort of clinical psychologists/neuropsychologists at Wellstar, this is the first psychologist position at Wellstar Cobb Hospital. As such, the clinician should possess a strong commitment to demonstrating the contributions of psychology as a discipline. (S)He should possess the commitment and ability to cultivate strong relationships with medical colleagues and others - helping to foster teamwork and an emotionally-healthy work environment. While functioning with high autonomy, (s)he should possess a strong grasp of professional ethics, seeking consultation from other members of the Wellstar Psychological Services department as needed.

Required Minimum Education & Experience: (1) a doctorate degree (Ph.D./Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), (2) completion of an APA-accredited internship, (3) completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Psychology, (4) licensure or license-eligibility as a Psychologist in the State of Georgia, and (5) three or more years of experience of post-licensure clinical practice working with a moderate-to-high acuity psychiatric population. Whereas active board-certification (ABPP) is not required at the time of hire, the clinician should possess board-certification in Clinical Psychology within 36 months of the date of hire.
