  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Customer service experience and mindset.
  • Ability and comfort to work with online learners by email, phone, and video conferencing.
  • Effective communication skills, including detailed note-taking, active listening, rapport-building, care for confidentiality, and adaptivity to varying communication/learning styles.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize a schedule where day-to-day duties may vary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-volume setting and navigate challenges with positivity, optimism, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a remote work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build connections and collaborate across an organization to investigate, advocate, and resolve student concerns.
  • Passion for exploring opportunities for personal professional development and the continued growth of online programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience working in a college environment, preferably with direct student contact.
  • Previous Academic Advising or Success Coaching experience.
  • Experience working with a Student Information System (SIS/ERP), Learning Management System (LMS), Customer Relationship Management System (CRM), and other industry-standard software applications.
  • Ability to simplify and explain complex processes, policies, and information to all audiences, one-on-one and in groups.
  • Computer software skills, including Microsoft Office and web-conferencing tools such as Zoom or Teams.

Job Description:

Responsible for providing quality academic planning, success coaching, and general customer service to promote the success of online students at Texas State.

This position is eligible for full-time telework at the discretion of the division's Vice President.

Job Duties:

  • Engage online students through email, phone, and web conferencing.
  • Provide generalist academic advising for students in a wide range of online majors, including degree planning, course selection, and completion.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to explain complex policies, procedures, and information.
  • Connect students to college-wide resources, providing additional referrals as needed.
  • Provide basic success coaching.
  • Acknowledge and research student concerns, collaborate with appropriate stakeholders, and advocate for solutions with a commitment to fairness and integrity.
  • Perform outreach services to promote student engagement, success, and completion.
  • Maintain a high regard for accuracy and clarity in all student interactions.
  • Maintain detailed student records.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.
  • Stay up to date on changes in curriculum and admissions criteria for online programs.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and attainment of knowledge regarding industry advancements and best practices in academic advising, success coaching, student engagement, and online learning.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering TXST's mission.
  • Collaborate with departments across campus as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
