On-Call Theater Technician

SUMMARY STATEMENT
The On-Call Theater Technician handles technical aspects of events using campus theater facilities on an as-needed basis. Events may require use of lighting, sound, or projection equipment, or simple setup and tear-down of props and furniture. A list of people able to fulfill these functions is kept in the Theater office and assignments are given based on availability and skills.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A. The On-Call Theater Technician reports and is responsible to the Kepler Center Technician. This position requires only general supervision.

B. The On-Call Theater Technician works most closely with the Kepler Center Technician, with any members of the HCC community involved in assigned events, or with appropriate persons representing outside groups who are using college theater facilities.

DUTIES
A. Set up and run specialized equipment as needed.

1. Handle lighting from arranging instruments to running the control board.
2. Handle audio from arranging amplification to running the mixing board.
3. Handle video from arranging equipment for projection to setting and running cameras for recording.

B. Set up and tear down props.

C. Set up and tear down furniture.

D. Assist those using college theater facilities with ad hoc needs.

E. Perform other relevant tasks as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma required, some college is desirable; 3 to 4 events' worth of experience with one or more technical aspects of theater operations is required, only minimal training can be provided.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to set up and use lighting, sound, or video equipment; ability to use basic hand and power tools; ability to work well and quickly under pressure; good people skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
A. This is a shop environment that may be physically demanding, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

B. Hours and schedule are on a per-event basis.
