Job Description:

Primary Duties:
- Process concealed carry weapons applications
- Type and distribute general correspondence letter, memos, agendas, etc
- Forward time sensitive reports & maintain tracking system for Patrol Division drug interdiction cases
- Receive, direct, transfer incoming calls, take messages, court dates/cancellations on multi-line phone
- Forward confidential reports through NICHE to proper county attorney or investigator page officers to relay information
- Receive, print and file arrest/event photo copy reports
- Maintain mail log to determine routing
- Complete daily reports
- Train co-workers in the use of computer practices
- Provide information, greet/direct visitors and inform office of visitor's presence
- Assist other troop area secretaries
- Attend meetings
- Serve as notary for troop area
- Print and display all policy postings
- Prepare Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) reports
- Maintain & update forms in folder for use by all personnel and update listing of the forms.
- Other duties as assigned

Secondary Duties:
- Create, organize, maintain report filing system for Investigative Services/Patrol Divisions and Nebraska State Patrol administration
- Distribute completed case reports as directed, forward, mail, fax confidential investigative reports to allied law enforcement agencies, county attorneys, attorney general and U.S. attorney
- Maintain extensive records of criminal/drug case files, filing & retrieving files
- Process incoming and outgoing mail & distribute incoming mail, including certified & confidential materials including correspondence, reports, enforcement related documents

Requirements/ Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; research; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency or experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.

Preferred Qualifications: Associates or Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. Experience working in the criminal justice field such as for courts, law enforcement, or county attorneys. Two years' experience working with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to interpret procedures and guidelines and convey their meaning to others.

Applicants must be free of felony convictions, and cannot maintain continuous association or dealings with persons, groups, or organizations that they know, or should know, are persons or groups or organizations under criminal investigation or indictment or who have a reputation for present, ongoing involvement in felonious or criminal behavior. Selection process will include an interview.

  • Learn the organizational structure, mission, and activities of the State Patrol
  • Learn agency policies and procedures pertinent to the work assigned
