As a member of the department leadership team, this individual is responsible for leading the metallographic laboratory.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Instructs, guides, and schedules work of metallographic laboratory technicians.
  • Performs metallographic analyses
  • Participates in the generation of Materion part numbers by ensuring that relevant chemical and mechanical specifications are included
  • Understands quality control and measurement techniques.
  • Ensures that Standard Operating Procedures, Job Safety Analyses, and special instructions are being followed
  • Makes recommendations for Standard Operating Procedures improvements and revisions
  • Provides guidance, support, and training for metallographic laboratory technicians
  • Evaluates progress and reports to manager
  • Understands and supports company policies
  • Ensures work areas and PPE are maintained and 6s standards are followed
  • Encourages team to meet and exceed expectations safely and without loss of quality
  • Performs minor maintenance on equipment as necessary
  • Works with Mechanical or Electrical groups as needed to help resolve equipment or facility issues
  • Participates in team training and personnel development programs, team meetings, team activities and safety meetings
  • Ensures the quality and on-time delivery of metallographic analyses
  • Assists in investigations of incidents
  • Understands and communicates Materion policy and expectations.
  • Responsible for ensuring that SOP's and routings are followed
  • Understand laboratory quality standards and participates in maintaining laboratory accreditations
  • Manages the calibration and repair of relevant equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Individual must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting or a 4-year degree with a science concentration
  • One year of experience as a Senior Analyst or Analyst A in the metallographic section of the quality laboratory or R&D Lab.
  • Basic computer skills including Windows, Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and working knowledge of SAP
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Self-motivated and able to initiate action without direction required
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize required
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution skills required
  • Ability to conduct metallographic analyses

The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
