Job Description

We are currently seeking a Senior Medical Science Liaison to provide peer-to-peer education in support of the field sales team for a portfolio of novel transplant diagnostics. In this role, you will develop compliant, high-quality messaging that aids clinical decision-making in support of improved patient outcomes.

Location: Remote (United States)

A day in the Life:

  • Educate customers across the continuum of transplant patient care as it relates to the use of novel biomarkers and molecular diagnostics, supporting appropriate scientific exchange (fair-balanced scientific and technical assay and disease state information)
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with transplant clinicians (nephrologists, surgeons, coordinators, medical directors), hospital administrators and laboratory directors
  • Collaborate within a matrixed organization (Transplant Services Account Management, Laboratory Operations, Business Development and Marketing) to identify research opportunities for a portfolio of innovative laboratory services
  • Partner with the Director of Medical Affairs to:
  • Collect, analyze and disseminate relevant scientific publications, studies, clinical results and best practices
  • Support collaborations with outside clinical investigators, researchers and thought leaders
  • Develop clinical utility / health economic outcomes research (HEOR) plans required to support product launches and market adoption
  • Synthesize customer insights into guidance that advances the organization's understanding of market trends and activities enabling customer adoption
  • Leverage Salesforce.com to track education activities
  • Attend conferences and customer meetings as needed
Education
  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred
Experience
  • Must be a Licensed Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Physician, with a minimum of five years of directly applicable clinical experience in nephrology, hepatology, cardiology, pulmonology, hematology. Other advanced medical degree (PhD or PharmD) will be considered
  • At least 3 years previous clinical transplant team experience required, preferably within the kidney or liver
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Develop, maintain and expand collaborations with outside clinical investigators, researchers and key opinion leaders in the transplant community to drive the adoption of products into routine clinical use
  • Excellent problem-solving and persuasion skills and the ability to create success by professionally communicating clinical solutions to individuals and multidisciplinary groups
  • Ability to assess and respond to clinical information, scientific/medical concepts and to present a fair-balanced profile of disease-state therapies and products, and any other of interest to Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Strong presentation, analytical and customer service skills
  • An understanding of commercial strategy, clinical market expansion, health economics and reimbursement coding
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience and knowledge of molecular diagnostic assay technology
  • Significant travel required (>60%)
