The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, you'll be working on highly technical products as part of a team of dedicated engineers and scientists from multiple disciplines. With oversight and guidance from your manager and assigned mentor, you'll be responsible for creating and implementing engineering solutions on product enhancement and new development projects. As a member of a cross-functional team, you will be a key contributor on mechanical engineering solutions for air and liquid particle counting systems.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

• Supporting new product development and sustaining engineering activities.
• Designing mechanical, opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies with support from your functional manager, assigned mentor, and peers.
• Creating mechanical solutions for gas and liquid handling systems.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Opto-Mechanical Engineering as a third- or fourth-year student or enrolled in a graduate program.
• Prior hands-on mechanical engineering design experience. Personal, professional, or coursework experience acceptable.
• Strong analytical skills with coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, vibration, and machine design.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD required.
• Self-directed and also able to collaborate as part of a cross-functional team.
• Excellent technical problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Coursework in GD&T per ASME Y14.5M, thermal analysis, finite element analysis, machine design.
• Opto-Mechanical coursework experience a strong plus.

The Nuts and Bolts

Location - This is an "in-office" position with Covid precautions being taken. The location of this position is in Boulder, CO. This is a 40 hour per week full-time position for the 2024 Summer (3 months) with the possibility of part time for the proceeding Spring. Local candidates only.

Pay Range

$25 per hour

How we determine what we pay (compensation philosophy)

Particle Measuring Systems determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for the Boulder, Colorado area. We will evaluate external equity, which is the relative marketplace job worth of jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.

For new hires, we try to make competitive offers between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. This allows the new employee room for future merit increases during review cycles. There may be times when we will offer above the midpoint. The decision to do so will be based on the applicant's level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and the compensation rates of the employees within the company doing the same position.
