We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Chelmsford, MA. The successful individual will be supporting the development of semiconductor manufacturing solutions. Brooks provides automation solutions for chip manufacturing globally. Among many technological areas, we design and build precision robots and systems for wafer handling. This role offers excellent opportunities for technical growth and interdisciplinary collaboration.

What You Will Do:

  • Participate and assist in the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of new robots. May be assigned to small projects or to assist Principal Engineers in large project phases of development.

  • Conduct feasibility studies and test new and modified designs.
  • Produce and release 3D models, drawings, and other required documentation per process.
  • Perform FEA (ANSYS) analysis for Thermal, Modal, and Structural models on robot designs within the group to ensure products meet customer requirements.
  • Support the Engineering Representation of the released robot through new Product Phase Gates to the Business Team.
  • Work cooperatively with the manufacturing and supply chain groups. May be responsible for understanding and communicating the cost impact of new designs.
  • Build prototypes, test fixturing, test equipment and may support the design of production assembly fixtures and test equipment.
  • Responsible for DVT (Design Verification Testing) for new robot product releases and creates appropriate test reports.
  • Support production operations and the quality organization as needed to ensure the product line can be sustained and function reliably

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • An understanding of General Engineering Mechanics, such as Statics, Dynamics, Kinematics, Vibration Analysis, and Heat Transfer.
  • Experience using some 3D CAD modeling and Drawings.
  • An understanding of Finite Element Analysis principles and proficiency in ANSYS or other FEA software.
  • Some proficiency in two or more of the following; MATLAB, Mathcad, or Excel.
  • Experience with a Product Data Management System is a plus such as Agile.
  • A basic and fundamental knowledge of what machine components are and how they function, such as motors, bearings, brakes, sensors, belts, and fasteners.
  • Verbal and written communication skills and can prepare technical reports.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
