OVERVIEW:

The Marketing Director, Brand reports to Year Up's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and is responsible for leading and managing the Year Up brand and the Brand team as part of Year Up's National Marketing team. The Brand team is responsible for brand strategy, brand management, thought leadership content, public relations, social media strategy and brand guidance across all Marketing channels.

The Marketing Director, Brand leads our brand strategy for Year Up that encompasses our current and emerging Year Up affiliate brand solutions, manages brand team priorities, leads key agency relationships, ensures high-quality work, enables the team to work efficiently and effectively, and acts as a thought partner and Marketing leader alongside Year Up's CMO and the organization's executive and leadership teams.

To be successful in this role, you will bring creative and strategic thinking to lead our Year Up brand plans as we are evolving as an organization. You have experience working in brand design and architecture. You have a clear point of view and strong storytelling capabilities across all forms of media, with effective team and people management experience. You understand the right questions to ask to evaluate requests for support, and can manage reprioritization and distribution of work across the team. Whether it's writing, editing, branding, graphic design, or video production, you know how to achieve quality work and enable others both internally and at agencies to reach your high expectations. You thrive off of the ever-changing world of marketing and are familiar with marketing across channels and mediums. You're a self-starter and a problem solver who enjoys finding creative solutions, working in an inclusive environment, and working with our internal and external stakeholders to achieve our marketing and organizational goals.

As part of their work, the Marketing Director, Brand will also have the opportunity to interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in Year Up's mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing Team Leadership

  • Partner with CMO, executive and leadership teams to define overall national Marketing strategy and set annual priorities and budget
  • Translate Marketing strategy into brand team goals, projects, and timelines
  • Collaborate with Marketing team to ensure alignment of cross team impact with other Year Up departments, including Program, Development, and Corporate Engagement
  • Support and develop Brand team members in meeting their goals and developing as professionals
  • Actively build a positive, mission-driven culture on the Marketing team
  • Collaborate in cross-functional teams to deliver quality solutions for the organization, to drive a consistent use of brand across channels, to develop plans and budgets to support a growing portfolio of solutions, and to fully leverage team's expertise to deliver effective campaigns

Brand Team Leadership

  • Development of Brand strategy, including brand positioning, the setting of style guides, brand guidelines, brand vision and value proposition for short- as well as long-term growth to ensure a quality brand experience across channels and the creation of content
  • Lead Public Relations and External Communications strategy and execution to build awareness and engagement with the Year Up Brand
  • Build our thought leadership practice including content creation and social media strategies for key Year Up leaders, most notably our CEO
  • Establish standards for high-quality branded content production across mediums to ensure stakeholders have clear, timely and inspiring brand guidance that enables them to generate fresh, high-quality, in-brand content that can be leveraged in cultivating students, corporate partners, donors, and volunteers, and the press; review and approve as needed
  • Define plans for incorporating new product/service solutions into the Year Up Brand or affiliates
  • Establish a clear approach to goal-setting and measurement of success for the brand: brand governance/evolution, thought leadership, awareness/advocacy
  • Ensure ability to support national and local brand content in a balanced manner with respect to team capacity, client need, and ROI
  • Manage a team of three (and growing), enabling all team members to leverage their strengths, successfully execute on their priorities, develop in their careers, and contribute to the success of the team and the organization
  • Manage agency relationships with brand firm and multiple PR firms; ensure we are generating the best return out of our SOWs

Site Team/ Learning Community Member

  • Serve as a mentor, tutor, coach, or learning community member, availability permitting
  • Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6-10 years' experience in the workforce, preferably working in marketing brand strategy or management; preferably having gone through a brand launch or redesign
  • 2-3 years' experience managing people, teams, and external agencies
  • Strong expertise in campaign and content development, including writing, editing, photo, video, web, and print
  • Passion for storytelling and messaging across audiences and in line with the brand
  • Good eye for design and branding
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly in reviewing creative work
  • Familiarity with digital content distribution channels, including website, emails, SMS, and social media
  • Demonstrated ability to drive integrated marketing projects and achieve flawless execution
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Keen ability to evaluate and set creative processes to drive effective collaboration and high-quality work
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple departments and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, reprioritize work, and communicate effectively when priorities shift
  • Familiarity with marketing technology and marketing automation systems a plus
  • A passion for working with young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential, and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up

Salary Range: $106,000 - $135,000

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Year Up has established salary ranges for each of our sites, which allows us to pay employees competitively, equitably and consistently in different geographic markets. For roles in which the location is listed as flexible, the range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Salary offers take into account a candidate's skills, experience, and location. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.

  • Vacation: Earn three weeks paid vacation in first year of employment; four weeks after initial year.
