JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for an ongoing systematic program of comprehensive preventive, selective and diagnostic inspection of all cement plant equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Inspecting all the cement plant equipment pursuant to the established schedule after determining frequency and inspection routes
  • Creating and improving the inspection procedures and routes
  • Performing routine inspection routes looking for any abnormal equipment defects including but not limited to; leak of material, vibration, heat, noise, smell, oil level, etc.
  • Performing selective inspection (condition and wear inspection) during Preventive Maintenance [PMs] and Major Shutdowns.
  • Creating equipment inspection reports
  • Creating work requests in JDE to rectify or improve the abnormal conditions by defining the problems clearly and as objectively as possible and suggesting the solutions or approach
  • Performing the possible corrections of abnormal conditions during inspection or PMs, without compromising safety, such as cleaning or replacing dirty filters, cleaning of blowing-off dust, tightening of loose bolts, lubing, etc.
  • Noting and trending the condition predictors to diagnose and detect equipment failures sufficiently in advance to prevent unplanned downtime of equipment using MS Excel and other programs
  • Suggesting ways to improve equipment performance, reliability, availability and mean time between failures
  • Suggesting ways to reduce or optimize equipment operation and maintenance costs
  • Performing or supervising equipment repairs when required
  • Give support/recommendation for planning, scheduling and executing preventive maintenance repairs during equipment outages such as non-destructive testing, internals inspections, common equipment repairs, etc.
  • Being on the call-out roster for maintenance
  • Working with other plant personnel and contractors for inspections and repairs
  • Working as a Supervisor/Leader if needed for small projects, main outage or short kiln outages
  • This professional will be included on the call out list to provide plant support
  • Represent the Reliability department during the absence of the Reliability Engineer
  • Be able to install & repair machinery (Mechanical Maintenance Function) as required
  • Operate equipment such as boom-lifts, cranes, forklifts, and other related mobile equipment as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School or Equivalent, some college preferred
  • Good knowledge of machinery and equipment
  • Minimum 5 years industrial maintenance and repairs experience required, cement plant experience strongly preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required Knowledge:

  • Must have knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement - preferred
  • Good proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and JDE (desirable)
  • Ability to correspond through e-mails
  • Ability to record and analyze trends
  • Ability to write and improve inspection procedures.
  • Knowledge of inspection and repairs of equipment such as gear boxes, motors, kilns, cooler, coal mill, etc.
  • This professional needs to be able to read technical drawings, equipment manuals and technical procedures
  • Ability to take and record reliable and repeatable measurements and data
  • Ability to determine equipment conditions by visual observation and listening to its operation.
  • Ability to remove and install guards and other equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform all functions as maintenance mechanic

  • Willingness to work extended hours, even weekends and holidays, if required
  • Apply/share gained knowledge of any provided training opportunities
  • Ability to manage time and meet provided deadlines
  • Ability to retain and apply all training knowledge and skills when provided

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must require visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, climbing on equipment, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, climbing on equipment, working at heights up to 350 feet, repetitive motion, and squatting - all for extended periods of time (up to 16 hours) to perform the essential functions.
  • Manual dexterity to operate telephone, personal computer, fax and copy machines and other office equipment
  • Must be able to travel by commercial means and operate self-driven private transportation as required
  • Must be able to perform outside work in inclement weather
  • Must be able to see and hear safety signals
  • Ability to distinguish different types of sounds to diagnose equipment problems
  • Must be able to work days or nights as required during equipment outages.
  • Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Walk/stand on uneven ground, walkways and catwalks throughout the work day.
  • Manually position crane lifted parts and equipment. Physically lift up to 75 lbs. parts waist high for mounting into position.
  • Ability to work in tight areas to install and handle heavy parts (sideliners, slinger pans and other equipment).
  • Must be able to walk up to 200 yards over rough, uneven, and/or wet slippery terrain

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working conditions are characterized by up to 80% of time spent outdoors conducting or overseeing inspection and maintenance activities in heavy industrial settings
  • The balance of time is spent indoors researching records, reading, compiling data, performing analyses, creating reports, attending meetings, and consulting with other personnel
  • Workplace conditions may include exposure to temperature and weather extremes
  • Conduct of required activities requires exposure to heights, mechanical and electrical hazards.
Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, iron, shale, coal, coke, oil, grease, lubricants, solvents and various other chemicals and well as various process odors, noise, and dust may be expected and may aggravate allergies.
