Summary:

Precision Turbo and Engine is one of the world's foremost manufacturers of high performance, aftermarket turbochargers located in Crown Point, Indiana. In addition to a line of high-performance turbochargers, wastegates, heat exchangers, and fuel injectors, we are also a top distributor for many other performance products such as fuel system components, stand-alone engine management systems, and data acquisition systems.

The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. This is a Monday through Friday day shift role with some overtime required. Generous benefits package, 401k and paid time off are offered from first day of hire.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine or machine's program as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications and drawings.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed data.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly through the use of calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, and indicators to verify dimensions to print.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. Works with Material Preparation and Finishing Departments as needed.
  • Updates inventory systems for usage and scrap, and prepares Material Tags for non-comforming parts.
  • Designs and builds tools to efficiently manufacture products
  • Follows all Company personnel policies and process procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Autocad/Solidworks software applications, and CNC programming experience.

  • Ability to work unsupervised.

  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level interpersonal skills to work effectively with others to meet production demands
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one's sleeves to get the job done
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to learn new computer software programs, such as SAP Business One
Physical Demands:
  • Employee is regularly required to stand for 4 hours at a time, with minimal breaks.
  • Employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
  • Employee is regularly required to operate machinery, including but not limited to CNCs
  • Employee is regularly required to wear safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toe shoes, and a face mask/covering
  • Employee is required to be on site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
  • Requires daily face-to-face interaction with employees on production line.

Work Environment:
  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled production environment, with some exposure to loud noise.
