Role Description:

The Lab Supervisor will oversee day to day operations in an Engineering lab including, labor planning, time and attendance, improvements in the area, and cross functional communication.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise staff including hiring, employee communications, training, discipline, evaluation, and terminations responsibilities
  • Drive engineering/customer satisfaction through detailed focus on test readiness and quality of testing.
  • Provide direction and support for an assigned hourly testing team encompassing EHS, Quality, Material, Process, and Delivery
  • Ensure labor alignment matches Engineering and Business priorities
  • Planning, creating, and executing labor plans for all shifts, based on engineering requirements, manpower (hours) and equipment availability, part availability, and develop recovery plans when demand is not met.
  • Lead and support all assigned Continuous Improvement Activities
  • Ownership of the department's equipment, tooling, fixtures, key testing processes, products and productivity
  • Ensure all company policies are followed and take corrective actions accordingly
  • Work with the Team Leads to develop and execute training plans for all operators to ensure they have the skills needed to do their jobs and are sufficiently cross trained to optimize resource usage safely and correctly
  • Provide clear and accurate communication to the work group. Ensure follow-up on issues and concerns are addressed in a timely manner
  • Troubleshoot and solve operation problems when identified
  • Promote culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and collaborative problem solving
  • Work with engineering, maintenance, and sourcing to communicate work schedule and schedule necessary resources to support the company
  • Identify opportunities to increase employee engagement, motivation, and collaboration across work groups.
  • Responsible for all Time and Attendance functions

Skills:

Knowledge of Time and Attendance Policies, Test Development/Planning/Execution, PLC Systems, Project Management, electrical and mechanical prints, databases, Microsoft applications, knowledge of Wabtec processes.

Qualifications:
  • BS degree from accredited technical college or university.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated practical application of lab equipment and general upkeep needs
  • Knowledge and demonstrated practical application of Statistical processes
  • Intermediate to Advance skills with Microsoft office applications (Excel, Power BI, SharePoint)

Desired Characteristics:
  • Strong drive for meeting internal and external customer requirements.
  • 2 to 5 years of Engineering, Test Lab, or manufacturing experience
  • Motivated and self-starter.
  • Experience in Engineering Test Operations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong mechanical & electrical aptitude
  • Experience with Skills Assessment and technical training processes
  • Ability to work with engineering, global labs, and program management effectively.
  • Highly organized and close attention-to-detail.
