Shift schedule: 3rd shift. Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM

Job Description:
A Lab Assistant will be working in a high volume, production-based environment performing a vital component of clinical lab science. Primary tasks are to assist Clinical Laboratory Technicians (CLT) and/or Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS) in sample management and testing. Secondary tasks will be to assist other Lab Assistants in partnered departments for sample receiving and automated pipetting.

Job Duties:

• Assists CLTs and CLSs staff with sorting, organizing, uncapping, capping, storing samples.
• Assists CLTs and CLSs staff using the laboratory information system (LIS) to track, locate, retrieve, or request additional samples for processing.
• Assist the Automated Pipetting dept with loading and unloading of specimens on the Hamilton pipetting instruments including capping and uncapping samples, labeling aliquot tubes, pulling errors, and sorting aliquots.
• Assist the Accessioning dept with receiving and accessioning clinical lab specimens.
• Sorts specimens into appropriate station for manual pipetting.
• Returns specimens to appropriate locations.
• Performs discard and relocation of specimen racks.
• Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information.
• Troubleshoot any specimen related issues.
• Ability to accurately identify specimens.
• Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills.
• High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
• Must pass a standardized color blindness test.
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
• Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance.
• Replenish test bench supplies as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory bodies.
• Document all quality assurance activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Follows any other job-related instructions and performs any other job-related duties requested by department management.

Required Education/Degree:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Work Experience:

• No experience required. This is an entry level position. Training occurs on-site.
• Previous medical/lab or production experience of 6 months or greater is preferred.

PAY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range*: $17/hr to $21/hr.
*Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
