About the job:Under limited supervision, has primary responsibility for interviewing children who are the suspected victims of child abuse, neglect, witness to violence, or drug exposure. Is responsible for active participation on multidisciplinary teams, high quality written and verbal reporting, and providing expert witness testimony for the judicial system.
What you will do:
- Provides information gathering, legally sound, non-leading interviews in the investigation of alleged abuse of children and developmentally delayed adults.
- Provides extended evaluation as necessary.
- Serves as a witness in court and legal proceedings when requested.
- Completes reports on conducted interviews in a timely manner.
- Works as a team member with Law Enforcement Agencies and the Department of Human Services personnel in the investigation of allegations of abuse.
- Maintains state of the art technical and practical skills by participation in professional organizations, peer review, and ongoing trainings.
- Collaborates closely within the tri-state area with counties served through the Child Advocacy Program.
- Provides in-service, educational and outreach programs for professionals, paraprofessionals, public and private social service agencies and the general public.
- Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences, and in-services.
- Is responsible for creating an environment of organizational learning about patient safety and medical/health care error reduction, supports sharing of knowledge, and foster behavioral changes to improve patient safety.
- Employee may periodically be requested to drive.
- Is knowledgeable and actively participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy & Procedure.
What we are looking for:
- Requires a Masters Degree in the behavioral sciences (Social Work or related field, etc.).
- If available (degree dependent), professional licensure from the state of Iowa preferred.
- Requires a minimum of one to two years of experience working with children and adolescents.
- Experience working in the field of child abuse is desired.
- Must demonstrate ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with children and adults.
- Must be able to work as a team member or to work independently.
- Must possess high integrity and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Must be able to cope effectively with stressful situations and time constraints and demonstrate critical-thinking skills.
- Is familiar with federal, state, regional, and community resources.
