Job Description:

The Digital and Data Studies (DiDa) minor at Binghamton University is seeking candidates for up to two tenure-track Instructors beginning in Fall 2024. Launched in 2022, DiDa is the largest and fastest-growing minor in Harpur College of Arts and Sciences. The program is committed to providing liberal arts students with an immersion in digital literacy and data inflected thinking while promoting socially and culturally responsible approaches to technology and an awareness of the impact of data-driven decisions and algorithmic processes, particularly on communities that are already marginalized.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to teach in the program and lead its development. Instructors teach the equivalent of six courses per year. These positions are tenure-earning and focused on excellence in teaching and pedagogical development. Successful candidate(s) will have experience teaching in digital or data science areas, in curricular development, and will have vision for the continued development of this new program. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and should have experience in designing and teaching undergraduate level courses in digital and data science topics including, but not limited to data science, digital humanities, digital or computational social sciences, digital or computational physical sciences, or critical data studies. PhDs may be in any discipline in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, or arts. We especially seek candidates with records reflecting creative approaches to teaching, and who are comfortable in a student-centered environment.

We are especially interested in applicants who view teaching and program development as areas to promote diversity and perspectives that are underrepresented in higher education. Strong internal candidates have been identified. Binghamton University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
