The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is offering a $2,500* hiring bonus to dedicated and hardworking team players interested in joining our Highway Maintenance and Construction teams, and who are willing and able to operate a snowplow! New hires who begin employment after November 7, 2022, and hold their CDL at time of hire, will receive a pro-rated bonus. New hires who obtain their CDL after hire are also eligible for a pro-rated bonus. If you don't already have your CDL, we'll provide free/paid training and support you every step of the way! Bonuses will be paid out in installments every pay period from November 2022 through April 2023.

Pay rate of $16.626 to start as a Construction Technician I. Employees may be hired as or will be promoted into a Construction Technician II position at a rate of $19.125 upon possession of a CDL, acquiring necessary certifications, and demonstration of skills.

Examples of Work
Examples of Work: Testing work includes: Perform standard tests on Portland cement concrete, asphaltic concrete, soil, aggregate and other construction material for conformance to specifications, and maintain automated records. Perform tests such as slump tests, entrained air content, and unit weight tests of Portland cement concrete. Perform soil tests using light weight deflectometer to measure deflection and moisture. Use balloon volume measures, sea/es, and heating devices to calculate the density and moisture content of soil.

Inspection work includes: Inspect contractors' work on construction projects including checking grades and elevations, collecting recording measurements, and maintaining automated records. Observe transportable and stationary sea/es to weigh contractors' trucks containing materials use In highway construction such as concrete, hay for mulch, asphalt and gravel. Inspect earthwork and removal operations. Read construction plans to understand dimensions and information shown and apply the information to the inspection of projects.

Survey work includes: Participate on a highway construction survey crew to utilize construction plans, blue top data, and cross section data to stake locations .at highway construction sites. Measure elevations using a survey rod and level, measure distances using a chain, tape measure or electronic measuring equipment. Make standard computations, operate total station, GPS, and/or level. Act as survey crew leader on less comp/ox survoys or fill in for crew leader.

Assist Maintenance forces with Emergency and Winter Operations
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED: Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. Post High School training in survey or construction desirable.

OTHER: Must possess a valid Class A or B CDL within 6 months of employment. Required training and costs associated with obtaining the CDL will be paid for by the Department. Regular and reliable attendance is required. This position may require overnight travel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have strong organizational skills, strong math skills and computer skills, and be able to multitask. Must be able to obtain material testing certification such as ACI. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, climb, bend, stoop, walk long distances and work long hours, possibly weekends, in outdoor temperature extremes. Must be able to report to work within 40 minutes of notification under normal conditions.

*Bonus amounts will be pro-rated for teammates hired on or after November 7, 2022, and for teammates hired without a CDL.
