Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Insurance (Department) is charged with safeguarding those affected by the business of insurance through the fulfillment of our statutory obligations and by promoting the fair and just treatment of all parties to insurance transactions.

The Department's Financial Regulation Division has the primary responsibility of monitoring the financial condition of domestic insurers. As some of the domestic insurers do business internationally, the Group Solvency Specialist will be the international expert in the Department to understand and coordinate efforts related to Supervisory Colleges and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), including Internationally Active Insurance Groups (IAIG) and Common Framework for the Supervision of Internationally Active Insurance Groups (ComFrame). Currently, the Department chairs three Supervisory Colleges for its domestics and participates in several other supervisory colleges.

This is an At-Will position for an individual that is highly skilled. This position is under the discretion of the Director of Insurance and reports to the Deputy Chief Financial Regulator.

Job duties Provide expertise in current and on-going international insurance accounting activities at the NAIC and IAIS. Identify and monitor key international insurance and non-insurance risks. Provide expertise in the implementation and maintenance of supervisory colleges for internationally and nationally active insurance groups. Supervise the financial analysis process for the domestic companies that are part of a supervisory college. Coordinate the Department's implementation, monitoring, and review of the Group Capital Calculation. Prepare and provide public and confidential information to state, federal, and international regulators related to international matters. Interact with the highest level of officials on both a company and regulator basis. Assist the Deputy Chief Financial Regulator and Chief Financial Regulator in special projects, as needed.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting with a major in accounting; Experience with financial examinations and analysis;

Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation.

Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: Theory and practices of higher accounting, auditing, insurance principles, finance, economics, management and data processing.; Overall operation of an insurance company and state insurance statutes, rules and regulations, and NAIC guidelines and model laws; Personal computers, specifically Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

Ability to: Effectively communicate orally and in writing, to present comments, opinions and factual information clearly and concisely to other state, federal, and international regulators and industry representatives; Cooperate with and deal effectively with others; Interpret insurance laws and analysis/examination procedures and findings for insurance company officials and Department staff.
