Responsibilities

This position serves as the primary grant coordinator for the Department of Physics' Sponsored Research support unit specific to Experimental and Theoretical Nuclear Physics research.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Activities associated with administering, tracking, and reporting of federal, state, local, and private awards, assisting principal investigators with pre-award and post-award processes, as well as daily administration of these contracts and grants, ensuring compliance by the department and the Principal Investigators (PIs).
  • Reconciling and monitoring fiscal activities for Nuclear Physics projects for reporting purposes to ensure compliance with agency, federal, state, and university policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Completing, analyzing, verifying, recording, and tracking transactions (revenue, transfers, expenditures) of a financial nature. Prepares integrated financial and statistical reports, financial statements, historical trends, and/or projections for short and/or long-term impact on sponsored funding.
  • Developing, reviewing, and analyzing sponsored project documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Initiating payroll appointments and personnel updates. Coordinating the personnel appointments with PI, Supervisor, Administration, and department HR representative. Monitoring appointments for accuracy and budget availability works with PI's, appointees, and HR Rep to take corrective action when issues arise.
  • Advising faculty of the rules and regulations regarding the purchase of materials, supplies, or services for various funding agencies.
  • Completing all Nuclear Physics-related purchases via SpearMart or utilizing a P-Card. Ensuring that purchases are completed in a timely manner, are in compliance with procurement procedures and policies, and are allowable, allocable, and reasonable on the grant(s).
  • Serving as P-card proxy and backup to Travel Representative as necessary.
  • Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree and one year experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to five years.

    • Experience searching out and reviewing federal, state, local, public and private funding opportunities for projects both domestic and international.
    • Experience preparing contract and grant applications, particularly proposal budgets.
    • Experience using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    • Strong organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize assigned tasks and meet strict deadlines.Computer skills to include experience with Office 365 and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
    This position requires successful completion of the eSPEAR Certification Series within the first six months from start date.Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in responding to and preparing proposals for Nuclear Physics
  • Experience in responding to contract requests from for-profit companies working with public funding.
  • Working knowledge of the Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements.
  • Knowledge of FSU's Research Administration Management Portal (RAMP).

    The FSU Physics Department offers research programs that are well-funded, diverse, and provide a breadth of learning and teaching experience to over 300 graduate and undergraduate students. The department is comprised of over 60 faculty members specializing in condensed matter, nuclear, high-energy, atomic, bio-, and astrophysics.

    The Physics Department houses unique experimental facilities such as the John D. Fox Nuclear Accelerator Laboratory, where this position is located.

    Anticipated Salary Range

    Minimum starting salary for the position is $42,000. Anticipated starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
