Position Overview:

The Fire Inspector at Motiva's Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex prepares and responds to all refinery emergencies in a professional and safe manner and ensures all mobile and fixed firefighting systems are operable and in a ready state for quick deployment.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to refinery emergencies - Fire, Medical, Hazmat, and Rescue
  • Complete fire and medical run reports after emergencies
  • Act as focal point for operation of all emergency response equipment
  • Act as focal point for inventory/inspection of all emergency response equipment and document and report all discrepancies to the Emergency Response Shift Team Leader
  • Assist in emergency drills and training
  • Act as focal point for the selection, use, and maintenance of personal protective (and respiratory) equipment
  • Complete all Fire Extinguisher, Monitor, Hydrants, Manifold and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) inspections
  • Maintain all Fire Department equipment and Fire Water systems in a ready state
  • Complete Fire Safety inspections
  • Maintain applicable fire/emergency response certifications and qualifications
  • Attend all required Emergency Response training to comply with the Motiva Emergency Response Standard
  • Maintain proficient Emergency Response services to the refinery
  • Make minor repairs on emergency equipment, escalate as necessary
  • Remedy/intervene in unsafe acts and/or situations

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • Emergency Medical Technician Certification (minimum level required EMT)
  • Texas Commission on Fire Protection Certification (Industrial and Interior Structural Fire Fighting)

Education, Experience and Skills Preferred:
  • 1+ years of Emergency Response, Fire Department, or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) experience
  • Rescue Level 1 Certification
  • Hazardous Materials Technician Certification
  • Paramedic Certification with Texas Department of State Health Services

Physical Requirements:
  • Willing and able to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodation
  • Willing and able to work in compact and confined spaces with or without accommodation
  • Must be willing and able to climb and work at heights, walk on high elevation grating and to walk up and down stairs with or without accommodation
  • Motiva emphasizes safety in all phases of its business, therefore, with proper training, you must be willing to use safe lifting techniques to lift 50 pounds from the ground to waist level with or without accommodation
  • Must be willing and able to work in self-contained breathing apparatus

This role is subject to a pre-hire physical abilities test.

Other Requirements:
  • This role works a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. The successful candidate must be willing and able to work overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends
  • Must be willing and able to be on call and meet callout standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the requirement of a work visa
  • Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
  • Must support and comply with the company's drug free work environment, which will include random drug screenings
  • Must support and comply with the company's harassment free workplace environment policy
  • Must support and comply with the company's safety policies and initiatives
  • Must support and comply with the company's diversity and inclusion work environment policies
