Job Description

Hourly Pay a minimum of $30.00 to a maximum of $38.00

Position Purpose:

Responsible for supervising transportation and disposal services by coordinating day-to-day activities. Responsibilities include manifesting, packaging, spill clean-up response and remedial activities, labeling, loading, off loading & coordinating transportation, and sampling/profiling material while adhering to state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Primary Duties/responsibilities:

  • Supervise teams in the packing, labeling, manifesting and shipping hazardous waste from the customer(s) site to appropriate disposal centers.
  • Assist in the loading/unloading of hazardous waste materials at designated sites utilizing appropriate equipment such as drum dollies, forklift, etc. to ensure transfer of waste in a safe and timely manner.
  • Recognize and act on opportunities to increase value added services to customers. Maintain professional & courteous communications with internal and external customers on a daily basis.
  • Comply and enforce all compliance, health, safety, and procedures in accordance with VES-TS policies.
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of all DOT/EPA and VES-TS regulations required in submitting paperwork to expedite disposal of hazardous waste materials.
  • Ensures that DOT requirements such as load weight limits, driver log book, VIR's, transportation permits, insurance cards, fuel trip reports, IFTA fuel stickers, or other paperwork is up to date and valid.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a professional manner to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness to completion of project(s) in a timely manner.
  • Provide mentoring/coaching for less experienced field members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related science discipline preferred
  • Prior work experience in the hazardous waste/related industry required
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong team player
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Computer proficiency (i.e. VES-TS Field System, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Suite, AS-400, etc.)
  • Ability to operate forklift
  • Ability to follow through on assignments
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of disposal site capabilities and limitations

Required Certification / Licenses / Training:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Hazardous (H) endorsement
  • Environmental Specialist III Competency Test
  • Complete DEA Reverse Distributor Training.
  • Complete VES-TS Reactives Training.
