  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, including principles, concepts, techniques, and procedures; understand relevant University, College, and Foundation policies; knowledge of leadership and management practices; federal, state, and local laws related to the work; strategic planning processes; academic programs and student services offered by the College.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; high degree of innovation; creative and self-starter attitude, performance and goal driven; report writing and proposal development; customer service orientation; ability to lead and direct others; organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand complex policies and procedures; write reports; manage budgets; oversee the development and implementation of effective policies; speak to individuals and groups about the Foundation/College; serve on committees and work groups.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in business or non-profit management.
Job Description:

The position of Executive Director and Senior Director of Development holds joint responsibilities to the McCoy College Foundation and the McCoy College of Business. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors of the Foundation and the Vice President of University Advancement, the dual responsibilities are integrated in the area of fundraising. Generally, this position will spend approximately 60% of his/her time focused on foundation responsibilities and 40% on college responsibilities. This position holds a supervisory role over foundation staff.

Job Duties:

FOUNDATION RESPONSIBILITIES (as Executive Director):
The Executive Director of the Foundation oversees all aspects of the Foundation including governance, budgets, strategy, operations, and fundraising. Key responsibilities are outlined below:

Board Governance: Works with Board in order to fulfill the organization's mission and adherence to the original gift agreement authorized by the Texas State University System Board of Regents.

  • Lead the McCoy College Foundation in a manner that supports and guides the organization's mission and vision as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Communicate effectively with the Board and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Develop data, reports, and investigations requested by the Board to enable them to carry out their duties.
  • Stimulate involvement by the Board.
  • Guide and recommend the Board with respect to policies and activities in which the board may wish to participate.
  • Serve as ex-officio member of all standing committees and task forces.
  • Promote and steward the Foundation's history, culture, reputation, and image.
  • Responsible for organizing and holding a new member orientation.

Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
  • Exercise prudent fiscal management of the Foundation's resources, enhance resource utilization, and maintain the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Maintain the fiscal integrity of the Foundation including overseeing quarterly financial statements and annual audit which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission of the Foundation is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.
  • Implement the Foundation's activities that carry out the organization's mission.
  • Work with the Board to develop strategic planning that ensures that the Foundation can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Enhance the Foundation's image by being active and visible in the college, university, and outside audiences.

Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.
  • Administer the Foundation's operations including implementing all Foundation policies and governing documents.
  • Negotiate and sign all contracts, agreements, or other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the Foundation.
  • Review and approve all donor endowment agreements on behalf of the board.
  • Serve as the principal board contact representing the Foundation to outside professionals including accountants, auditors, investment consultants and managers, and attorneys.
  • Implement the decisions of the Board.
  • Conduct searches for professional services such as investment and accounting services.
  • Supervise and oversee Foundation staff.

Philanthropy:
Actively seeks to increase the assets and strengthen the impact of the Foundation in meeting the strategic needs and priorities of McCoy College.
  • Work with University Advancement to ensure philanthropic metrics set by the Board and the Dean are met to support the strategic initiatives of the College.
  • Manage a portfolio of major gift donor prospects with the capacity to give $1 million or more.
  • Develop, create, write, and/or evaluate individualized plans and/or strategies for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts, estate gifts, and corporate/foundation prospects.
  • Provide stewardship of all donors to the McCoy Foundation.


McCOY COLLEGE RESPONSIBILITIES (Senior Director of Development):
The Senior Director of Development will execute on the College's strategic priorities as they relate to fundraising, alumni engagement, donor cultivation, and outreach initiatives. The fundraising priorities for the College complement and support the University and McCoy Foundation's philanthropic goals and objectives.


Fundraising: Develop and implement fundraising strategies for the college to secure major gifts.
  • Plan and implement methods of prospect identification, solicitation, and cultivation in order to achieve successful solicitation of funds, and match donor's interest with the needs of the college.
  • Present formal fundraising proposals to major donors and prospects and prepare dean for presentations.
  • Coordinate with University Advancement to research individuals, corporations, and foundations to identify opportunities for sponsorships of key programs and initiatives.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events that effectively communicate the goals and priorities of the college.
  • Identify and steward prospective donors to the College.
  • Develop persuasive donor proposals with University Advancement that are aligned with College priorities.

Program Development and Support: Develop an annual Business Development Plan outlining fundraising goals and identifying top donors/prospects and plans towards achieving objectives.
  • Enhance the engagement of faculty members in the development program.
  • Provide monthly updates and develop a comprehensive annual college fundraising report.
  • Serve as a McCoy College resource and liaison to University Advancement and external stakeholders in such areas as advancement services, research, development, and outreach programs.

College Engagement: Maintain thorough knowledge of the College's strategic priorities including educational, research, and outreach initiatives.
  • Connect prospect portfolio (coordinated with University Advancement) to the strategic priorities of the College and secure major gifts in support of those priorities.
  • Facilitate meetings for the Dean with key donors and prospects.
  • Expand access and pathways for external constituents (alumni, donors, and prospects) to participate in and contribute to the College's learning community.
