Description:
Technician will provide neuro diagnostic testing support for outpatient clinic and acute inpatient hospital services. Will work collaboratively with a team of neurologists and other technicians in both areas.

ASSESSMENT

* Possesses skill and knowledge necessary to provide appropriate care according to the age of the patient.

* Able to obtain basic clinical information to perform EEG monitoring study.

* Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient's needs to be applied for best scheduling of tests.

* Provides detailed instructions to patient and makes them feel comfortable.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

* Applies electrodes with accuracy after measuring site according to the approved system of measurement, obtaining brain wave electric activity.

* Knows how to properly apply electrodes and use of glue, causing minimal discomfort to patient.

* Measures impedance of all applied electrodes before recording.

* Properly stores supplies and glue products.

* Observes 1 page of perfect calibration prior to each test and 1 page at the end of each test.

* Observes 3 minutes of hyperventilation on patients who are able to do so.

* Obtains records of wakefulness, drowsiness and sleep whenever possible without additional medication and appropriate notations on the graph.

* Possesses knowledge to recognize EEG patterns leading to seizures or other events which assistance may be required.

* Able to perform photic stimulation as required or indicated, maintaining a constant awareness of the possibility of great discomfort to the patient, and has knowledge of when to abort appropriately.

* Records electrical activity from regions of the brain using appropriate equipment.

* Has full understanding of the procedural findings for the preparation of preliminary report to assist physician in final interpretation to include relevant information extracted from the patient s chart.

* Works with nursing staff to provide medications as directed and ordered by physician.

* Able to assist physicians with access and review of digital EEGs, saving data as per requirements.

* It is the technician's responsibility to enter all charges and credits for procedures into the computer system accurately

* Performs inpatient EEGs and monitoring as required within the seizure disorder unit.

* Able to set up, operate and monitor patient and equipment with and without video.

* Assists in training new hire or contract associates and assessing competency.

INTERVENTION

* Notifies physician and or nurse immediately of life-threatening findings as in status epilepticus, prolonged burst suppression, grand mal seizures or other unsuspected findings which require physician's immediate attention.

* Possesses knowledge and maintains a constant awareness of potential safety hazards ensuring the necessary safety precautions.

* Knows how to call for assistance and responds to emergency situations.

* Technologist is responsible to maintain equipment in good working order through routine adjustments and to report malfunctions to the supervisor and Bio-Med.

* File all EEG tracings saving to disk and archiving as required.

* Retrieves data for PI and CQI purposes and other job-related duties as requested by manager.

* Assists in the development of policy and procedures as they relate to areas of responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* High school diploma or equivalent required.

* Graduate of an AMA approved program for Electroencephalogram preferred.

* Registered EEG Technologist (American Society of EEG) preferred.

* Minimum one (1) year of work experience preferred in field of Nero Diagnostics.

* Prefer experience with nerve conductions

LICENSURE:

* Current BLS required
