JOB DESCRIPTION

The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the area and discipline resources to ensure that overall project needs and priorities are met in a balanced fashion, and that design criteria and engineering work practices are carried out consistently and with a high degree of quality across the project. In supervising the Engineering activities, the Engineering Manager will provide leadership through supervision, mentoring, training, and motivation. The Engineering Manager will identify the appropriate qualified and competent engineering staff and ensure effective communication between all parties involved in the project.

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the planning, supervision and the execution of engineering and design activities to ensure that engineering deliverables are provided in a timely fashion to support the scheduled materials management and construction activities. The Engineering Manager is also responsible for review of engineering standards, implementing engineering procedures and maintaining the required standards of technical quality. The Engineering Manager shall provide direction to and coordinate activities of the discipline leads.

The Engineering Manager will pursue and develop opportunities for innovation, such as digitalisation and technology use, work share and high value engineering centres, to bring value to Wood and customer.

Assisting the Project Manager, the Engineering Manager will participate in project planning and scheduling and provide input in key aspects of the project in accordance with the responsibility matrix.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and or approve Engineering Scope of Services and Scope of Work and assist in ensuring overall project scope is performed and project objectives are met.
  • Prepare and manage the engineering aspect of the Project Management Plan (PMP) and Procedures, Instructions and Forms (PIFs) and assist the Project Manager in the timely preparation, approval, and effective implementation of overall project specific PMP and PIFs.
  • Approve all project discipline design criteria and engineering specifications and standards for use on the project through the Project Manager.
  • Establish and ensure Project Design Basis and Principal Design Documents (critical to schedule) are communicated and adhered to.
  • Responsible for Engineering Work Breakdown Structure (EWBS) and Work Packages and provide input into project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Approve and control engineering design and cost budgets.
  • Review work plans and schedules for the project in conjunction with Discipline Leads for submission to Project Manager for approval.
  • Develop and manage a plan for production of engineering documentation and computer aided design.
  • Approve Material Take Offs (MTO), design documents and drawings.
  • Ensure that engineering work on the project is completed in accordance with engineering plans, project Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE), risk management and Wood Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Provide input into ensuring project requirements for permits, licenses and regulatory agency approvals are met and up to date.
  • Ensure copies of obsolete or superseded documents are not used on the project.
  • Responsible for ensuring engineering deliverables meet requirements for quality, content, presentation, detail, and accuracy.
  • Establish and monitor the systems for measuring technical progress and productivity for the project and develop corrective action plans to control work within budget and schedule.
  • Advise the Project Manager of difficulties and issues that arise on the project.
  • Provide input into the Project Needs List, Risk Register, Action Log and Technical Decision Log and assist in the preparation of project instructions.
  • Monitor Project Scope and use the project-specific Change Management Process to confirm changes for Project Manager approval.
  • Approve the Level 3 area engineering schedule.
  • Assist in the management of the Level 4, 3-week look-ahead engineering schedule and plan.
  • Oversee coordination of all project test and engineering fieldwork.
  • Oversee coordination of cross-discipline input into engineering deliverables and supply to relevant parties.
  • Assign responsibility for procurement packages to engineering staff and manage the process.
  • Oversee the technical review and approve vendor documentation, Purchase Requisitions, Price Inquiries and Letter of Recommendations and coordinate cross-discipline input into procurement and contract technical packages.
  • Establish cross-Wood office communication protocols and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Interface with construction as required to provide technical clarity and advise of any changes.
  • Responsible for arranging constructability, technical and safety design reviews.
  • Convene and chair engineering coordination and technical meetings and attend other project meetings as required.
  • Prepare monthly engineering progress reports, approve technical reports, and provide input into overall reporting requirements for project.


QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Engineering from a recognized university.
  • 10+ years of related multi-discipline and management experience within an engineering consulting environment, and expertise in mining, minerals and or metals industry.
  • Professional Registration (P.E.).
  • Knowledge of engineering management, quality management, human resources practices, financial and other administrative principles, and practices.
  • Leadership and relationship building capabilities with the capacity to delegate appropriately.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, motivational, team building, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to be open-minded and innovative with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and designers and provide technical leadership.
Job Requirements:

Authorization to lawfully work in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required.
