Role Summary Purpose

The primary function of this role will be to contribute to the development of the Virtual Simulator (VSIM) platform for Wabtec locomotive products. The focus of this role would be on the evolution & maintenance of the VSIM environment, which is a key enabler of the business, allowing users to load a virtual machine and test locomotive control software integrated with behavioral and plant models simulating the locomotive. The role will require constant adaptation to the hosting needs of the various locomotive control platforms to enable remote testing functionality. This role requires focused effort on leading the team to support the user base, coordination with the Hardware in the Loop (HITL) team for model & panel deployment, and integration into the virtual environment.

Functional Responsibility

  • Develop next generation virtual simulations for locomotive product leveraging VMware/VirtualBox/QEMU/Docker technologies
  • Work with external stakeholders to adapt the control system to the VSIM environment by means of custom adapters and device drivers in LINUX environment
  • Contribute to the design for new and existing Simteam platforms as well as troubleshooting of complex issues.
  • Following a strong software development process and provide working knowledge of standard software development tools including revision control and defect tracking.
  • Developing and maintaining the VSIM code base through version control in Git
  • Work in a team of engineers to support an existing user base
  • Responsible for assignments with long-term strategic business impact.
  • Show skill in confronting circumstances which are impeding technical progress
  • Communicate progress to internal team members and external customers.
  • Coordinate VSIM processes with HITL sim team member activities including building MatLab models and C/C++ code, supporting system troubleshooting in real time HITL test lab environment, and providing customer support.
  • Execute the design of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements

Essential Requirement
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science/ Computer Eng / Electrical
  • Experience in virtualization technologies: VMware/VirtualBox/QEMU/Docker
  • Experience with development of real-time or virtual systems in LINUX
  • Hands on experience in C and C++. developing HMI using QT
  • Experience with version control processes, such as Git
  • Experience with device driver and BSP level development
  • Experience in developing automated scripts using Python/Bash/Perl
  • Software/system architecture design & release management
  • Understanding of Real Time Operating System like RT-LINUX/UNIX/QNX based systems.
  • Understanding of Communication Protocol like ARCNET/CAN/RS-232/Ethernet.
  • Working knowledge of both software design/Object oriented techniques,

Desired
  • Masters of Computer Science/Computer Engineering
  • Working experience with real-time or virtual systems
  • Web development experience
  • Experience with auto-coded environments, such as Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience with Xilinx UltraScale MPSoC systems
  • Knowledge of Data Distribution Service (DDS) experience
  • Experience with Open vSwitch or similar virtual networking
  • Experience working with Virtual Simulation or hardware in the loop simulators and modeling software.
  • Working experience with SysML tools, such as MagicDraw.
  • Experience with DAQ Systems using COTS like NI/OPAL-RT/ETAS
  • GUI programming using LabVIEW.
  • Database experience, like PHP/SQL
  • Trouble Shooting of VME/PCI based UNIXRT-/LINUX Industrial Graded systems.
