Job Purpose

To provide professional design and field support for all electrical/controls systems as well as, blow-molding and downstream packaging equipment within Ring Container Technologies facilities. Capital project management and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, refrigeration, and electrical systems from a controls perspective is a major portion of this job function. This is a hands-on, team player position and the ability to provide servant leadership from corporate is critical to the success of the Technical Services Department.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

This position is mostly self-directed and is responsible for managing electrical and controls aspects of capital and plant improvement projects. Training of plant personnel while on specific trouble calls or installation visits is important for development of plant personnel to address future issues.

Capital Project Management

  • Project Management - Develop and manage capital projects as assigned to ensure correct scope, justifications, and appropriate execution.
  • Engineering/Design - Design and engineer capital projects including control systems design, sizing and selection of equipment. Responsible for overseeing the development of project electrical drawing and documentation package.
  • Construction Management - Manage capital project installations to ensure desired construction, specification, and timeline results are achieved with minimal cost.
  • Contractor Management - Control the use of contractors as related to capital expenditures. Coordinate the contractors to support any and all plant personnel as necessary.


Leadership and Innovation
  • Provide leadership to the Company and personnel to improve engineering and operational initiatives.
  • Drive engineering support to reduce costs and increase profit margins.
  • Provide support and motivation to the facility personnel to improve operating efficiencies, controls knowledge and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Perpetual searching for more efficient implementations in the Plants by using your technical knowledge and creative ideas.
  • Provide servant leadership, camaraderie and support to colleagues to enhance teamwork of the organization to achieve common Company goals, as well as, the Technical Services departmental goal to become "The Best in Industry at the Execution of Projects".


Experience and Educational Qualifications

Our Electrical Controls Engineer will be a college graduate (B.S. in Electrical Engineering preferred) with manufacturing experience, preferably in the plastics manufacturing industry, with project management responsibility and travel experience (road tested), preferable Journeyman Electrician. The candidate should possess a strong understanding of production, maintenance and engineering, as well as strong people skills and managerial abilities. She/he should exhibit a sense of urgency, accountability, business ethics, professionalism, self-motivation, and the desire and focus to improve the business.

The candidate should be proficient in PLC programming, industrial networking, power systems and motor controls. The candidate also should be experienced in CAD (AutoCAD/Solidworks), Project scheduling (MS Project) software, Human Machine Interface (HMI), Power Distribution, Plant level communication and be PC competent.

Physical Activity Required:

Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs and equipment, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Needs good body agility.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist. This requires the full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Crouching: Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Standing for sustained periods of time.

Walking: Moving over long distances to accomplish tasks.

Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.

Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin.

Fingering: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm.

Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. This includes activities where detailed or important spoken instruction must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than 40 dB at 500 Hz, 100 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction. Able to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machine parts.

Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements of the arms, hand and/or fingers.

Vision: Must be able to prepare and analyze data and figures. Eye sight capable of seeing small defects at distances close to the eyes.

Exertion: Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
